EP 13 The Kirchner Family
When I first met Mrs. Kirchner, I really wondered if she'd ever be willing to open her heart to a pet. It seemed that when it came to the notion of adopting animals as pets, her mind was made up.
Then to witness first-hand how Caroline was transformed through the Petfinder process was really incredible. And then to find out that she and family were going to take home all five of their adoptable pet choices-- from rats to a bearded dragon, to a Chinese water dragon and a hamster-- that absolutely blew me away!!
-- Esther Reyes, Co-Executive Producer
I was shocked at first, just like Mrs. Kirchner, that we brought a rat for a teacher’s pet. I didn’t know that you can train a rat just like you can train a dog. Guinness was such a special pet. The whole crew fell in love with him.
-- Cara Goldberg, Line Producer
Little Jennifer Kirchner is a very courageous young lady. She wants to be a zookeeper, and had no qualms about handling whatever we took over there, from birds to snakes to rats. The animals were attracted to her too—when Casper the Cockatoo was flying around the classroom she just held up her hand and he landed there! She definitely has a way with animals.
I was sad to hear of the passing of Teachers Pet Guinness the velveteen dumbo rat, but am very glad that we are able to dedicate the episode to him as he was a very special pet.
