Well I was planning to make the first posting but I see wehavedogs beat me to it!
ANYWAY, I'm Lynn with Petfinder and I organize the Adoption Options workshops. I also attend most of them, but you might meet Kim or Sara or Ann or Susan as well. Betsy even drops in once in awhile.
Betsy decided 6 years ago that education and networking needed to be available to those "in the trenches" doing the hard work every day and not just the managers and executive directors who could afford to take time off to go to an expensive multi-day conference in a big city. So she created Adoption Options (AO).
These are a series of one day seminars, with the same speakers that present at the national and regional conferences. We take the "show on the road" and do 20 per year, with luck in a town near you.
The day is casual and fun, with breakfast and light lunch served. There are 30 or so different topics that we rotate throughout the year, but they all focus on how to improve and increase our adoptions.
All are welcome, whether from animal control, humane society/spca shelter or private adoption groups. We try to have something for everyone. The best news is that it's only $10 per person and there's no limit to the number of people you can send. Last year we had over 1900 attendees total!
I'll be posting here before and after each AO, and you might hear from other speakers as well. I'll be able to go into more detail about what's going to happen at each event and you'll be able to contribute your thoughts after attending. It's an exciting day and we thought it would be better if you all had the opportunity to keep it flowing here. You can also trade info with people who went to AOs with different speakers than you heard, thus getting even more info!
If you have questions you think others might need to know, feel free to post here and I'll post the answer. You can also email me at adoptionoptions@petfinder.com
And now, enough babbling. go visit the Adoption Options page and see if we're coming to town near you!

I just saw that you will be in Augusta in November and I plan to make the trip-- sound like it would be well worth a few hours drive |
