| catmom - where are you in SOuthern California? I'm in Orange County. The smoke from the fire in the nearby area is thick and the ashes falling look like it's snowing. The heat has been awful the last few days. I really hope that these Santa Ana winds go away soon!! |

Petfinder has developed a forum for this issue, which I think is awesome!

fostermom, I just saw that as well and think it's wonderful.
Stay safe.
I heard on the news that one of the fires apparently was started by arson. _________________

Oh my god, no, no. That is so, so terrible!!! People's entire lives are being torn apart, because someone wanted to see a big fire?
Some days I just hate people!
I hope these fires get under control ASAP. _________________

Google maps shows where people can take displaced animals in San Diego County. Mostly lists places for large animal evacuees, but also some small.

[that link should work for you - Petadmin]
then click on the Map of California wildfire updates from KPBS in the left hand corner
I lived through the 2003 fires, this seems to be almost as bad. So far, not the loss of life that we had back them. Keep praying on that one!
On an odd note...the last time that they had really bad fires in So Cal, the Red Sox were in the World Series....hmmm!

Our small sanctuary in northern San Diego county has 3 fires burning around it, not threatening us now but have closed our major roads. We were given evacuation orders for the town, but many of us in defensible areas stayed behind, packed up and ready, but watching the situation closely.
Air quality is very poor for critters & people too, but our asthma and heart condition kitties are doing okay. The biggest challenge is keeping water buckets ash-free enough to keep livestock & horses drinking.
Thank you for your prayers & support for all of us in southern California! |

This is horriable. My positive thoughts are with you all and the animals. I'm way over in NY, but IF I can help I will. I've already sent a donation. What are they doing with all the animals? |
