Not really, but a question to throw out here…As you that have a Yahoo! account know they are closing Yahoo! photos in September. They are offering to upload our current albums to one of five different photo sites. One is Flickr (owned by Yahoo!) the others are Kodak Gallery, Snapfish, Photobucket and Shutterfly. (the poll may help others with choosing a site to store pics on too).
In all the collective Petfinder wisdom what are the pros and cons of any of these sites you have experience with? Any more user friendly than another?
I know a lot of you use Photobucket (guess it would be nice to link a photo to show in the post instead of my ‘infamous’ yahoo links of the past lol). I am too cheap (or frugal) to pay to store photos online… (I’m saving for retirement lol).
What about ‘hidden’ rights and privileges of the sites? Guess I’m being lazy to read all the ‘fine print’. I consider my photos my property, I don’t want the site I store my photos on to think they own them to do with them they want, They are MINE. If someone wants to use one, ask for permission. It’s the courteous thing to do. (Not that I could think of *why* someone would want to use any of my pics….. )
Thanks for the input! I appreciate the feedback.
Kind regards,
A/M & Nitro ~ bionic monster dog
(when I get a free site with direct linking I may even post more photos to feed the addiction… ) _________________

I use PhotoBucket, but readily admit that I've never bothered to read the fine print. Probably not a good thing. It's worked so far and I haven't seen any of my pics used in indecent ways.
By the way, speaking of pics, I don't think I've seen pics of Nitro. Could you post some? And why is he bionic? Sorry, curiousity. |

Honestly, I don't care what the fine print says on Photobucket. I was outraged at first with what someone posted here, but I don't think that they intend to use our pictures for anything, it was more of a CYA for them. Just make sure you make your pictures private! A friend of mine had her pictures posted somewhere else because she forgot to choose private for her setting. It was not Photobucket's fault, it was the fault of the person who felt like violating another person's private stuff and posting it somewhere else. _________________

Photobucket is good is you're just going to post pictures on forums and what not. I use Kodak Gallery to share albums with family & friends, and I also order prints from there. It's pretty user friendly, IMO. |

Thanks for the reply puffinsmom... I only post pet, auto and flower pictures online and try not to post any personal stuff, I burn those to dvd. So not too worried about indecent use, just the infringement or unauthorized use of my 'works' lol..
Don't apologize for curiosity... I don't post nearly as much as I did when Nitro went through her 'ordeal' so you may not have been here then. She has a titanium pin in her one back leg from TTA surgery to correct a ruptured cruciate ligament. My hubby said at the time he was going to change her name to "Plasma" 'cause that's where his TV money went. Her picture is my Avatar... but here's the 'infamous' links to her soon to be defunct Yahoo albums.. First is TTA album

Second is her adoption album (with other assorted doggie cousin pics)

Fostermom: Thanks. I will remember that. Do y'all use the free service or pay monthly fee?
Unique Beagle: That is what I mostly want it for. So that may be the way to go. Thanks!
Guess nobody has any preference of the other sites... my poll is a dud!
c'mon folks... hubby got us a new digicam I need to know which of the above sites is the most user friendly so I can share Nitro pictures with you more often... _________________

other. I use Image EVent
www.imageevent.com
I realize I have to pay for it, but i'd rather pay $25 for the year than move 5 years of photos. Plus it's ad free |

I use photobucket, because that's what most people here use! It's very user friendly, and you can upload videos, too.
I recently got a shutterfly account, but only because I got a free photo book from them because I'm on Dogster. I haven't tried posting pics online from it. _________________

| A/M - Nitro is a good looking pup! I think she's better than a plasma tv! I love the pic of her rain gear for her cast and the ones with her tongue sticking out. What a cutie! |

Looking at the results seems Photobucket is a runaway.
Thanks puffinsmom for the nice compliment on Nitro, I do love her spotty tongue (just wish she’d learn to keep it in her mouth! *SLURP*-- it’s how she gets your attention… the poor deprived little monster! lol). She’s over one year post surgery now and thank God the other knee is sound and she has made a fabulous recovery. My little monster...gotta love her!
Thanks everyone for the feedback I appreciate it. Sorry I didn’t put “Other” Caroline. I just listed the sites Yahoo! listed for free transfer of current albums. Image Event wasn’t one of them…sorry. And as I mentioned earlier, I’m too cheap to pay for online storage… I could start collecting emails and those that need a Nitro fix send a weekly or monthly ‘newsletter’ with photos of course.
Thanks for the input PupB- I’ve seen Benny videos in the snow. Very cool! Do try to post a photo via shutterfly & see if it works. I’d be interested in the outcome.
I forgot I do have a Snapfish account already; nothing uploaded to it though, I had signed up for it eons ago when my kid sis uploaded some family pics to share. I tried to read through some of the stuff on their home page but didn’t see anything about sharing/linking to forums etc seems it’s by ‘email invitation’… *blech* and mostly for ordering prints… I’ve a pretty decent color printer so no need there…
I also have storage/web space with my ISP I could upload files there… How hard is it to link photos via that route to share and have them show in a post instead of a link? Would I have to learn some HTML? Or is it not possible? Anyone?
Keep the great feedback coming; we’ll see if the old girl can learn something new. Sorry so long…but me brain is a churnin'..
Thanks much!
Kind regards,

Here's one from shutterfly, if it will work.

Okay, I can't figure out how to post online from shutterfly. I'd just use photobucket! _________________

Thanks Pup! For the valiant attempt! I copy pasted the link in the browser window and saw Benny falling asleep while studying...

What a CUTIE!
As you know I'm really talented at posting links!
Seems the majority are leaning towards photobucket!
