Not sure if everyone knows that sadly we lost Shannon Moore Wednesday.

You can light a candle in her memory at
http://www.gratefulness.org/candles/candles.cfm?l=eng&gi=shann

Shannon was a Stealth Volunteer, founder of Save our Pets, and she also worked w/ ARNO. She was one of the driving forces trying to help get the Pet Evacuation Bill SB607 passed. The bill passed the Senate on Tuesday, 36 yeas/0 nays, and is now in the House.

This was one of several articles that she was quoted in.
http://www.iberianet.com/articles/2006/04/06/news/news/news46.txt

The Daily Iberian wrote:
On April 17, a “people and pets march to the state capitol steps will take place at 2:30 p.m., led by New Orleans resident Shannon Moore, who personally rescued 200 animals.

“So many people stayed, because they couldn’t bring their pets, Moore said Wednesday. “Many people died because of that. Some lost their pet. It’s terrible for people to lose everything and also lose the only companion they had.

Crying or Very sad We have lost a great advocate for the pets and their people, and a dear person. May she rest in peace, and may God have mercy on her Soul! God Bless Shannon!

Oh no. How tragic. Is there an address where we could send cards? Although knowing OF her, I really don't know anything ABOUT her, such as who her survivors would be - husband, children, parents (?).

Thank you.

I'm trying to find out the funeral arrangements and the address to send cards.

BF has posted an article about Shannon w/ a picture of her dog at the Pet March. They are also asking to please contact the House Judiciary Committe to help continue to push this bill through. Let's all try to do this in memory of Shannon.

Sorry...forgot the link: http://network.bestfriends.org/animallawcoalition/news/4553.html

Has anyone else heard anything about funeral arrangements? The only thing I've been able to find out is there may only be a memorial service in NOLA. I also have the following info. I saw the address was posted to the public on NOLA forum so I guess it's OK to post it here also?

Shannon's husband, Robert Sanders, would please like everyone to make donations in lieu of flowers. These are groups she supported:

Alley Cat Allies
http://www.alleycat.org/
Donations: http://www.alleycat.org/memorial.html

The HayThere Group--info not yet available

ARNO
http://animalrescueneworleans.com/
Donations: http://animalrescueneworleans.com/donate.html

Cards can be sent to:

Robert Sanders
25 Canberra Ct
Metairie, LA 70003

The obituary will be in the Times Picayune BEFORE the funeral. Hopefully for Monday's paper.

Please join us to honor Shannon

For the address of Shannons mother, my email was posted incorrectly in the Nola post

Its

pudzzy@msn.com

Please know that both Robert and Shannon's mom fully support the crate idea also. Shannon's mom said all she wants is for no one to ever forget Shannon and her dedication to these animals.

This is the delivery address for anyone who wants to send a pet crate in
memory of Shannon:

Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry
100 North Ardenwood
Baton Rouge, LA 70805
Attention: Hilary Stephenson

Please attach a little note saying it is in memory of Shannon Moore and
include your name and some kind of contact info, email or snail mail (keep a
copy for yourself, too, until we figure out how to keep records on this) -- then
we can let her Family know that her Spirit is continuing to do her good
works. Did anyone find someone who's good with graphics that can create a "memory
certificate"?

Would it be acceptable to send a monetary donation to the "crate" address above so that "they" could purchase the size/shape/etc crate that is most needed? It would also perhaps allow for a larger donation by not having to pay shipping charges.

I have sent an email to PetSmart Charities to see if they have any suggestions about doing this specifically in Shannon's memory.

Petco, MidWest and PetSmart have been incredibly generous in delivering crates to disaster areas, and have funds to support this. It may be one thing to consider. Many on-the-ground volunteers will remember when those semi's pulled up, filled with crates. What a beautiful sight!

Storing the vast quantities of crates must be weighed with the logistics of getting them to the proper places in a hurry. It might ultimately be more effective in the end to work with a large corporation that has the power to transport, and specify which size crate goes where.

These companies have proven in the past that they are willing and able to really be there when they are needed, so any contribution would not just be to a big company, but an organization that really shows up when needed, and in a big way.

Just a possibility among many.

She is Gone You can shed tears that she is gone or you can smile because she has lived You can close your eyes and pray that she'll come back or you can open your eyes and see all she's left Your heart can be empty because you can't see her or you can be be full of the love you shared You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday You can remember her and only that she's gone or you can cherish her memory and let it live on You can cry and close your mind,be empty and turn your back or you can do what she'd want:smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
