why do we have to have those braille things on the ATMs...I mean, if you are talking percentages surely more people utilize the spanish option than the braille option...how much do you suppose it costs to put those everywhere...it must add up...
...okay, sarcasm done... |
now *that's* beyond me, how many blind people actually use atms?
i suppose it might help if you only had impaired vision, but if you can't read the numbers on the big buttons, how would you read the screen? |

I have so much to say that I have no idea where to start. So I won't. Other than to say that if that is the biggest problem in life, waiting a half of a second to have the menu go to English, then you have a great life! _________________

It's a bit annoying to me, not because Spanish is the other language, but because if they are going to give you choices, there should be more than just two choices. There is a fairly large Arab population in this area, so why not include their language as well. If you are going to have choices other than English why not make it 3 or 4 or 5 choices.
Also in high school, a foriegn language was optional. There was a choice of 4 differant languages (Spanish, French, German and Japanese (I think it was Japanese)). Or you didn't have to take any at all. The only reason I even took one was so I wouldn't have to take as much in collage. _________________

Since the US has no offical language I don't see the problem with it.
I think the point estrella is trying to make is that people are more comfortable with the language they grew up with. It is not just hispanic people. If you went to another country to visit you may have some knowledge of the language spoken there and you may attempt to speak it but most people would speak English when given the chance. It's a comfort factor. |
