God forbid anyone have to push an extra button. What does that take? Like half a second? |
1/2 a second over how many transactions a year? how many in your lifetime?
it *does* add up. |

Because in America the most commonly spoken language beside English is Spanish. Duh. |
if they *do* decide to remove 11 million illegal immigrants, it might not be any more.
this is twisted humor and not meant to be snide.
actually i wonder if there's ever been a poll to prove this.
when i was growing up you chose a language to learn, now i'm told my friends kids were *told* that they're learning spanish in school, and that's it.
this disturbs me on many levels, eventually i will have children too.
this still also doesn't address the problem of why spanish speaking immigrants or whatever they are being called don't have to learn english. |
needanick, dont you think it is a good and educational thing for your children to learn other languages? i do. i mean i guess i wouldnt want to be forced to learn something i dont want to learn, but it is a real quality to be bilingual. |

I'm all about the law and doing whats right for this country but targeting primarily Spanish speaking people simply because Spanish is the language they feel most comfortable using, is intolerant. I guarantee that most of the people who use ATM in Spanish, speak English as well.

i'm not against it, but around here their choices were taken away. my brother did latin, my SIL did french all the way into college, and actually i did spanish in school TBH.
you aren't offered the choice in the schools around here anymore tho. you have to learn spanish. |

So does waiting in line, or being on hold on the phone. Just gives me more time to plot my plan to take over the world!!! |

actually, supporting a reverse descrimination is intolerant.
if they're going to include one extra language they should include them all. |

Even though I would have rather learned a different language in elementary and middle school, I was required to learn Spanish. But those 5 years of Spanish have helped me a lot more than my 4 years of German in high school, where I was actually able to make a choice of languages.
There are many Spanish speaking people in this area, and thanks to my Spanish classes I had no trouble communicating with them when my family had a yard sale a few years ago. It doesn't bother me at all that I run into Spanish options and translations of things in my everyday life. It helps me practice my Spanish.
In a perfect world, people would have a chioce of what language they wanted to learn in school beginning as early as possible. However, that's not possible. Many schools are having to cut programs because of a lack of funding. They can hardly add more language options. And because of the large Spanish speaking population of America, it makes sense that Spanish is the language that is required in so many schools. |

The atm's in my neighborhood have 10 different languages to choose from, but go to English if you don't choose an alternative. |

sarcasm alert here for those who are sarcasm detection challenged...
why do we have to have those braille things on the ATMs...I mean, if you are talking percentages surely more people utilize the spanish option than the braille option...how much do you suppose it costs to put those everywhere...it must add up...
...okay, sarcasm done... |

You have said so well what I have been trying to find a way to articulate...I probably would have done better if I was thinking in Spanish... |
