this is sparked from another thread. I'm running this out of curiosity.
Also out of curiosity, include your year of graduation so we can see how far removed from high school the voters are

I didn't have to do a language in high school, but I did take Spanish in 7th and 8th grade. I don't remeber if it was for a semester or what. I remember some things like colors, numbers, basic stuff.
My 6 yr old probably knows more than me from watching tv shows like Dora the Explorer.
I graduated in 96. |

I had two years of Spanish in high school, can't speak a word of it and can't understand much more of it. Also don't use it. Heck, I'd be hard pressed to say hi in Spanish. About the only thing I even remember how to say is "I don't speak spanish" in spanish.
I had one of French in collage and can only speak a small amount of it because of some of the words used in our langague and can't really understand more of it than that either. Also don't use it at all.
My husband never took any foriegn language in high school, but did live for around 9 months in Spain while in the Air Force during Desert Shield/Storm and does understand some Spanish, but can't speak more than a few words of it.
I graduated high school in 1993, and took French my first year of collage 1994. _________________

| Yes I use it still. We started in grade one, that is something that maybe should be implemented everywhere. It would be a good thing. |

I didn't learn any different languages in school. I did learn a few words from hubby but them are mostly naughty words. And I learned a few from Dora the Explorer.
My little sister they started teaching them German in kindergarden but that only lasted for one year. Then for some reason they stopped teaching it so young.
Oh and I didn't graduated. But if I had I would have graduated in 98 or 99. _________________

I studied French for 4-1/2 years in hs, 1 yr in college, can understand written stuff better than spoken. Wish I had kept up with it.
Class of 67
ps: recently wanted to use some simple geometry to figure out something and knew there was a formula but couldn't begin to figure it out. And I worked so hard to "get" geometry - I wan't gonna let it beat me - doesn't seem fair. |

I've been taking Spanish for 5 years (still am, this is the last year) and I still can't speak it very well. But I can understand it well. I watch the Spanish channel sometimes just to see how much of it I can understand...I get most of it but sometimes I can't hear what they are saying clearly because they talk so quickly!
I was actually thinking of this last week...if there are enough people here that can understand/write Spanish, would anyone want to take part in a Spanish thread? I know it would help me brush up on some things...I think it would be kind of fun, but I may just be weird like that. _________________

I took 3 years of French, mainly because it was 'college prep', however, I never went to college. Got married instead, what was I thinking???
