Sorry - this is getting confusing... I bumped the other post to give the backstory - but here is my most recent news on the situation.
Hello,
I am still trying everything in my power to locate that dog - my husband and I would love to adopt it. I have word from the reporter that the SPCA picked up the sweet little pup the day after the picture was taken. From there, I haven't been able to find out anything. I have tried to call and email anyone and everyone I can find contact info for... I have yet to get in touch with anyone. Understandably - of course, they are very very busy! I just want to know that the sweet little thing is okay... and if it needs a home, we are willing to do whatever it takes to provide one for him/her.
Please, if anyone has additional resources I should check out - let me know! I haven't given up on this sweet soul!!
Thanks!
Melissa

Hi Corlea, Melissa, please check my post
the gentleman shot at the gas station was removed yesterday. My husband is working this area and did not mention the dog specifically. If he's hanging out at the gas station he's probably been rescued.

Thanks to all of the responses from evryone. I received an response from an email sent :
Unfortunately, we cannot give a conclusive answer. We reported this today:
The black poodle
A black dog, a poodle mix, who was found Wednesday by Oregon soldiers laying
next to his dead owner, had disappeared from in front of a New Orleans gas
station by Thursday night. He earlier had refused to leave his owner's side.
An Oregon National Guard member said the body still was at the scene Thursday.
It's not known if the dog was rescued. However, the Guardsmen said he had seen
animal rescuers in the area earlier in the day.
The Statesman Journal received many offers to help save the dog after its
photograph was published on Thursday.

I called the number on the listing and it directs me to call the SPCA. It is busy. I have been calling that same number all weekend to inquire (once I heard from the reporter that the dog was picked up by the SPCA, I started calling...) and it's been busy each time. I wonder if the lines are working? Or perhaps that many people are really trying to get through. I don't know, but I am so thankful you found this. It brought tears to my eyes!
Also - they made it sound like they were not doing adoptions... that it was only for people to reclaim their dogs. Surely they know this pup's owner passed away? Hmmmm....
Melissa (bound and determined to save the pup!!!)

Melissa:
You might try also emailing the SPCA, and see which way you get through first. |

Hmm... Don't see one on their site (http://www.la-spca.org/) except for an email address for someone to contact about donating a xerox machine: Shelly@la-spca.org. Maybe you could email her, and ask her to forward it to the right person.
Also, here is the fax: 504.947.6690 |

good luck melissa !!!
don't worry about the message that says they are not doing
adoptions.... that could mean anything including that the
dog will have to be adopted via another organization.
it could be that those people are just giving this dog a place
to stay, eat, sleep and be medically taken care of until
a rescue organization can faciliate adoptions or whatever.
don't give up.
also, if you get through to someone and they are not sure
what you are talking about as far as where was this dog found
you might want to send them the link to that picture and story
so that they have a better idea of what you are asking.
good luck !!! |

Melissa, I do hope you get to take that doggie home.
Seeing that little face waiting for his owner made me so tearful. I am so happy that you have set this as your mission to become the new mum. Good luck.

I really hope that is the dog... I think we could all use a truthful ending to one of these sad pictures that these news organizations have been so irresponsibly posting.
Melissa I am rooting for you!!! |
