My dog was adopted with mange, and she's had it ever since. We took her to the vet and now we put medicine on her every day and she eats a pill once a month, but the bald spots still show up. Any other ideas? Rolling Eyes

I dont understand why you made a poll that has nothing to do with your question.......

Is it demodex mange? If so, it can be very hard to fully clear up, especially in puppies, and the dog can suffer from outbreaks for a very long time. It effects the immune system. You will just have to continue to treat it and hope that her body can overcome it eventually. Often it is contracted from the mother. It is also brought on by stress.

Sarcoptic mange is different, and is contagious.

In that case I'm pretty sure it's demodex mange, but if it was contageous, how would it spread?
But we've seen lots of patches on her cheeks, head, and inner legs. That's another problem; she likes to lick off the medicine.

Shes being treated and the vet didnt tell you what kind of mange it was? Demodex doesnt usually itch but sarcoptic mange does. Sarcoptic doesnt cause hair lose, it can but only because of the dog biting and scratching so much. Revolution does wonders for sarcoptic but not demodex.

Okay, well then it is demodex. The vet didn't tell me-he told my parents who don't really care what kind it is. Kami doesn't seem bothered by it and it has gone away on her head but moved down to her cheek.

Kami is spayed so if mange is like AIDS then she'd have been okay, unless her previous owners mated her before they had to give her up.

I don't know too much about this.

Ummm, mange isnt an STD. Shocked

It is a skin condition caused by mites. The sarcoptic type of mange is spread from dog to dog by those mites.

You might want to do some internet searches on both types of mange, so that you can learn a little bit about them.

Okay, thanks.

The real problem here is that when we put the medicine on her, she licks it off.
But if we get her to stop, it will clear up after a while and then moves to a different spot.

The pills are monthly things so they dont do much good...
