Welcome to the boards! I absolutely LOVE horses, I have been riding them since I was 9 years old. I tell you what, I love their smell and everything about them. Here is Whiskey, the horse I rode last summer. He is such a sweetie and as you can tell by his coat, he's well cared for. ALL of those horses out there are well cared for, well of course, hehe.
Whisky and I
Me behind Whiskey brushing him.
Leading Whiskey into the arena.
Me and Whiskey in the arena(sorry so dark)
P.S. I didn't vote on the poll, because I LOVE all horses _________________ "The purity of a person's heart can be quickly measured by how they regard animals" ~ Anonymous

My family has two horses. One 19 year old Appolossa named Appo (we didn't name him), and one 26 year old Thoroughred named T (Tristan). I don't have any pictures of Appo, but here's T. He's young at heart!

I've loved horses for as long as I can remember (well, the first memory I have of a horse is being in Grade 1 and being in love with a drawing of a horse that was on the back of an elementary dictionary. I traced that horse drawing for years afterwards, lol). My favorite breed is the thoroughbred, since I'm all about thoroughbred flat racing, but 2nd choice goes to hanoverians (especially 17hh dappled grey hanoverians, gender undecided)
I volunteer at a therapeutic riding program, and here are the horses I work with:
The black (dark dark bay) at the left is Andy, who was malnourished when he arrived at the program. The chestnut with the blaze in the middle is Nugget, who had the shortest tail I'd ever seen (but it's at normal length now. A year can make quite a bit of difference). The grey is my favorite, Zack.
Zack arrived in 1999, same as me, and of all the horses and volunteers and instructors, me and Zack have stuck around the longest. Zack is somewhere close to 24 or 25 years old, but he's such a good therapeutic riding horse that the program has kept him.
Andy came about 2 years ago, and he was extremely skinny (his backbone was sticking right out) and his neck, just under his mane, was loaded with dead skin and dandruff. I don't think he was very trusting of anyone, since I remember the instructor back then commenting "I think Andy's starting to trust us a little bit more now."
You can see just how fat Andy's gotten in the past year
Here's good ol' Nugget. He's awesome when it comes to neck reining, so he must have been someone's barrel racer or something. I rode him last year for quite a bit, and we got along quite well.
This is Comet, who's been here the 2nd longest (maybe about 3-4 years). He's got a soft mouth and if you try to touch it, he'll fling his head right up. However, he's the perfect horse for those riders who can't use saddles. There's one rider who doesn't have good muscles in her back, so when she rides, she rides on her back (with a triangle styrofoam pad to support her enough so that she can see where she's going). She also has prosthetic legs that would normally spook the other horses, but Comet is really calm about it so he's been her regular mount for as long as I can remember. He also has the smoothest trot, which makes him the favorite for the riders who don't have that good of balance.
Zack isn't as pretty as My2MasonGirls' horse, but I love him all the same . He went rolling or something, which is why he's got a splotch by his eye. Normally it's as white as the rest of his coat, but Zack has weird ways of rolling.
White coats are heck to clean, too, lol
Here are some horses that were nearby, in another paddock
In this paddock, there were about 4 chestnuts, including a yearling (maybe a weanling, but the timing is all wrong for that). This one in this pic, along with the chestnut beside her, and a third you can't see, were all begging for attention. The paddock also houses a donkey, which I took a picture of, lol
Everyone at the stable loves the donkey, lol

Thanks for posting that! Last year I was on another farm site and I watched the live feed practically every night, since 3 mares were due to foal, but I missed every single one of them (with one of them, I'd been up all night and when 6 or 7am rolled around and the horses were about to be fed, I gave up and went to bed. I returned later on and found out that the mare had foaled not even an hour after I'd left).
I'm NOT going to miss any foalings this year! lol _________________ Held in captivity by three cats (Willow, Buffy, Molly) and one dog (Jake)

| You're welcome, Aussie_Dog3 ... I love watching the foals stagger to their feet the first time. The last two were big healthy ones and now huge compared to their January size. |

count me in as a paint lover! i worked a paint breeding farm for a few weeks one summer...i could have smacked the manager b/c he bred one stallion in the aisle right in front of another stallion (not to be mean...that is just where it happened to be most convenient). the 2nd stallion was a gorgeos bay overo....not mean at all, but didn't want to be touched by anywhere. I asked where the medicine was b/c he banged his head on the bars and had a decent gash...the manager said "oh, he wont' let you put anything on it". I said "Watch me". He did. By the end of the 6 weeks, I could walk in and he'd come up and put his head on my shoulder, wanting attention. I soo wanted that horse...but I didn't have the money. <sighs>
My all-time favorite is Glee, a 29-year-old TB from my college (BS in Equine Studies)...he's blind in one eye. Can be the most calm horse...kinda fast but good. Then all of a sudden...BOOM! goes nuts. We get along great...same personality. They offered him to me...still trying to find a place and hope so soon.

Lauren--they're GORGEOUS! Splashes right? I am a little rusty, but I love splash overos.....if I could have any color, it would be a medicine hat pattern, though. I did one of my papers on the genetics of the colors....I need to pull it out and refresh my mind.
