Post subject: www.NOKILLNOW.com Great for No-Kill Shelter Info
Reply with quote

The website www.nokillnow.com has a lot of information about the no-kill movement: the definition of no-kill, who the leaders are, how the movement is doing nationwide, one city's successful fight to go no-kill, news updates, articles, current law and how to advocate in your own city with a petition. The No-Kill Resources section has the best-of-the-best no-kill links.

It seems like the movement is happening everywhere now and it's a great start if you want to get involved or keep tabs on the movement.

Read the site and then please take the poll.

THANKS!

I think that if - and of course that is a huge IF - it is done correctly, no-kill is the way to go. However, that would mean tons and tons of work on so many levels - government, local communities, vets, etc....shelters would have to become sanctuaries where animals would thrive rather than small steel cages where the would languish. If all the measures were taken that are outlined in that website, then no-kill would definitely be the way to go.

Yes, it sounds unrealistic, and definitely is unrealistic as a short-term goal, but as a long-term goal (as in many years down the road) I think it should be strived for. Why not? It can only benefit the animals if shelter conditions are improved, public awareness increases, and TNR as well as affordable spay/neuter programs are put in place. The way things are right now, something definitely has to change.

As the website says, the goal of no-kill is to prevent the shelters from filling up in the first place - an excellent goal to shoot for! It may not happen today or tomorrow, but maybe someday, if enough people become involved.
