Post subject: HELP!!

Okay,I have a female Min Pin.She is 1 and a half years old.I really want to get our back-yard fenced, but my parents refuse.I'm running out of options. She's kind of fat, because my parents keep feeding her lot's of table scraps I told them not 2,but they do anyway.I walk her everyday, and run her too,but she really needs "freedom" time.I don't know what to do.I don't think it's far to tie her up and keep her on a leash all the time.I mean, how would you feel? The only time she gets to run free is when my dad let's her LOOSE!Then I have to go chase after her!And I'm always scared of her getting hit by a car or something! It's sad though because I'm just young.Does anyone have any suggestions? Please help!

What about a fenced in tennis or basketball court? That might work until you can teach her to come back when you call her.

What about a long training lead? As long as you're not close to a street or other dangerous place, a 20' (or longer) lead might be enough freedom to run and play fetch and stuff, but you wouldn't have to worry about her getting lost or hurt.

You could train her in the park or whatever with long lead rope. Then whenever you feel like your ready to let her go..you could..thats the only way you can tell because i agree with you, you cant really keep a dog in the house 24/7. Rolling Eyes But talk to your parents about compromsing with a fence in your backyard or front..whatever you prefer. I have a dog. I let her go out whenever she pleases. But ur right about dangerous area..like the road. She has a electric collar..ITS DEF. LOW. Use that for like 3 days in a row and then see if they learn that. I know it sounds mean but its not. It really protects your dog from getting roadkill. Now..she knows better when a car comes from the distance..she yelps and run back down. Smile

Thnx for the ideas.I already have a 20' foot leash and I do let her loose a few times a week in a fenced in Lacrosse area.I guess that makes me feel better!I also have a retractable leash I walk her on so she can go where ever she wants. But it would be great to have a fenced yard.Oh well!
