Post subject: I need some advice

if there is anyone in alberta canada who knows about any Cavalier King charles spaniel rescues could you please let me know?
I am finally able to have my own dog! ( after five years of being doggyless *sniff*) and because i rent I do not want a big dog( that will come when I own my own home), I have been researching Cav's and fell in love with the breed, they seem to be a perfect breed for me, I have been looking in shelters and it seems like small breed dogs are almost impossible to find in areas around me. if I cannot find a Cav in any shelters there is a reputable breeder in my area who I really like the sound of, she spays, neuters( pediatric spay/neauter) all of her pups before they are sold to new homes, and she does complete health checks 1 shots, dew claws and seems like a wonderful woman ,she does not allow the pups to go to new homes until they are at least nine weeks old, and has an extensive knowldge on each of her puppies behaviors and such.( the best part is she has the medical history of the parents, which is so very important to me) I do not want to resort to buying a dog, but I have truly fallen in love with the breed, and if I have to I want to go to breeder who does it for love of the breed not for love of the money that she will make from the breed. I cannot even find any Cav mixes. I do truly beleive that the doggy is destined to be my new baby ( regardless of breed) will find me. and It is so important to me that I will beable to rescue. I would prefer an older dog and I am prepared to wait for the dog that is meant to be mine, even if I end up having to wait another year before the right doggy comes along. I would also love some advice on adopting and such. I am buying all of the doggy supplies and I already have an Idea on where his/her bedding, crate and such will be placed, I want to have everything ready for my new baby so I can lessen the stress for him/her. anything else I should be preparing for?
oh and the reason I do not want a big doggy right now is, like I said because I rent, and landlords seem to be allot more forgiving to smaller dogs, and no matter what, my doggy will be remain a part of my life no matter what. I am still researching large breed dogs for when I own my place, because I love big doggy's so very much!
I have money saved and put aside for any medical or health problems that coould occur in my my doggy's life, I have $500 dollars put aside for my future dog, and $500 put aside for my baby girl Indy ( my kitty). I've put so much thought into my animals and they are , and will always be my first concern..
sorry I'm rambling...lol

CKC spaniels are very hard to find in rescue. It is not impossible though! Have you done a search yet? If not, at the top of the page

click on pet search and enter you criteria. Thank you for adopting and if you are patient, your new furbaby will find you!! Good luck! Smile

thanks Sjgjoy:) its good to be back:) I missed this board.
well it looks like I've found a rescue for Cav's, and I am putting in an application tonight. it's not that far out of calgary, so I have my fingers crossed.
I'm going to the humane society next friday to see the dog's there as well.last time I went, there was a papillion about 4 years old with the saddest eyes I have ever seen, and he broke my heart, I want to go see if he is still there. there was also a cocker spaniel as well. I'm phoning on monday, and going in on my next day off.
I am also looking in classifieds at adds that say free to good home, because I want to protect a dog from a possible horrible fate because of the *free* on the add. does that make sense?

Sounds like you are all set. Just remember to hang on to thoes reciepts for all of your doggie supplies. I was in the opposite situation of yours a little over a year ago. I wanted a big dog (60-80 pounds) and came home with a guy who weighs 35 lbs. The collar, matching leash, crate, elevated food dish, all of it had to go back and be excanged for smaller items.

He was the perfet fit for my family, just a little shy of fitting the supplies!

Good luck in your search and carma will pay you back for adopting!
