Post subject: Help! Moving across country with 2 cats
Reply with quote

I'm moving from Nebraska to Washington with two cats. One won't be too freaked out after a few miles, but #2 will be! Suggestions on a crate that will hold both would be welcome as well as any tips! If the cats aren't on any downers I will need to be! Crying or Very sad I'm VERY nervous about this upcoming adventure!

Thanks!

I don't have cats but this came up in a group I'm in so I'll pass this along.

"Talk to the vet about giving a pinch of valium or something to keep the cat(s) calm.

For overnights try covering the carrier."

Like I said, this is from someone else.

Don't know if Feliway makes a plug in for cars or if there is a spray.
You could also see if something like Rescue Remedy would be appropriate for cats.

Good luck with the move.
If you are moving in the winter be careful going over any mountain passes.

i`ve moved multiple cats cross country a number of times.......i do understand your trepidation...

first thing can you afford to have them microchipped or tatooed. if not tag them ....next, as was suggested a little bit of a tranquilizer would help...

a large dog crate that would hold both cats would be the way to go...a foil turkey roasting pan makes a great litter pan for the crate just a small amount of litter or shredded paper will do.

cover the crate during travel...don`t feed before leaving and leave food and water to the overnight stay and feed and water a minimum amount, just enough to ease hunger and thirst....when you make an overnight stay do not remove cats from crate even in a motel room....

when you arrive at your destination, keep cats confined somewhere where they are safe and unable to escape until they are more calm.and adjusted to their new space...

trip needs are food and water dishes, food and bottled water, litter, toys, cover for crate, one or two foil litter pans oh and don`t forget to talk to your cats as you travel...the sound of your voice will give them some security..

good luck and remember it can be done successfully.
