I haven't seen Kutin around these parts since she got married a year ago (or more).Has anyone had contact with her? I'd like to let her know that Maggie, the super-old dog I adopted through her 5 years ago, is not doing well. Maggie has been a great joy in my life; one of those impulse "saves" that turned into a true love. I want Kutin to know that Maggie's time is short, but that she's had a very good life and, despite her age and health issues, is still happy.
If anyone does know Kutin and can contact her, please ask her to check in here. Thanks. |

| I hope you're able to contact Kutin. I remember you opening your heart to Maggie and it's sad about her not being well. You took wonderful care of her and gave her all the love every animal should have. |

I am sorry to hear that Maggie isn't doing well. There seems to have been a lot of sadness going around lately.
Kutin is listed on the member list on the FB forum, so I alerted her and let her know you are looking for her. _________________

No, Kutin hasn't contacted me, yet.
Maggie is not doing well. She's very old; around 20 years, we think. I've only had her for a bit less than 5 years. She had bad arthritis when I got her and it's gotten worse. We've dealt with a number of medical issues and she's come through surgeries fine until now. (Lost a toe due to cancer shortly after I got her. Had a tumor removed from her leg a few months ago. Had some bleeding from her mouth a month ago, but we couldn't find the cause.)
But now we've found that she has two tumors in her chest and one in her abdomen. The vet could try to get the one in her abdomen, but he isn't sure it would be successful. He strongly recommended not operating on the ones in her chest. It doesn't seem right to put her through abdominal surgery if the chest tumors are inoperable. So, I made the decision to keep her comfortable and not do any heroic interventions.
She's always had a sparkly personality, but that is fading. She has continued to enjoy her food. But recently, she has left some behind in her bowl. She still loves her daily ice cream.
She's on Tramadol for pain. But it's clear that the time is growing near when I will lose her.
She has been such a delight and joy in my life! If Kutin hadn't intervened when Maggie came into her shelter, Maggie would have been PTS immediately. Who would want an old arthritic dog? I'm so grateful that Kutin helped Maggie so that I could have her in my life even this short while.
I lost my GSD, Midhir, a year ago. And my Beagle/Basset, Charlie, two months ago. And now Maggie...
If anyone does contact Kutin, let her know that Maggie has had a good life with me. I wish there was more I could do for her. But I don't think that there is. I will miss her so. |

Sending prayers and peaceful thoughts to you and Maggie. You've given her an extra wonderful time here.
I'm on FB now but I still have a soft spot for PF- I guess because it's the 1st place I ever posted anywhere.
I've lost 3 of my furbabies since this time last year so I can sympathize. With an old animal it's so hard to watch them decline. I lost my 19 yr old cat and my(at least) 14 year old beagle-mix.

I'm so sorry to hear that Maggie isn't doing well. You have been so amazing to her!
I remember when I was a teenager, desperately hoping that some kind soul would take sweet Maggie, I knew in my heart that it was doubtful that anyone would want an old dog like her. She was so incredibly sweet, and such a gentle girl. I knew her fate when she came into the shelter I was working at, and it just didn't seem right or fair that a dog who had obviously lived her life up until then being in a home with a family should die alone and confused in a shelter. I was so upset that someone could just dump her when she got too old, that the sheer ugliness of it made me hope that maybe, just maybe when I posted about her on the PF message boards that someone would see the potential in her eyes and come to her rescue.
You did just that, furperson, and you did an amazing job of it. I can't believe she has lived 5 more years after her life was supposed to be "over"! You have taken amazing care of her and you have given her everything imaginable. Thank you so much for taking her to countless vet visits to make her feel better, and for giving her daily ice cream treats! You are one of the most dedicated pet owners I've known, and you also have a huge heart.
I am thinking of you during this time...I hope that you can spend some good quality time with Maggie and let her know what an extra special girl she is. Enjoy every minute...I know how heartbreaking it is to feel like you're counting down the moments you have left with your baby. Please give Maggie a kiss on the nose for me...I'm sure she knows she is very loved by many, but most of all by you. _________________

furperson,
Thank you for posting about Maggie. What a great dog! and how wonderful for her and lucky for you that you found each other.
I would be heartbroken also, I was just reading about her. Thank you for taking home the ones no one thinks have any worth.
I'm sorry you have to deal with so much loss in such a short time. I feel for you.
I think I will look for a senior the next time I do look. thanks for the eye-opener.

It's been 5 years? Wow, time flies. I am happy Maggie is with you, and that she didn't die alone at a shelter. I'm sure when the time comes, letting her go won't be easy but at least you have the comfort of knowing she had 5 amazing years with you. _________________ Show me your horse and I will tell you who you are. ~Unknown |

Maggie had a couple of rough days earlier this week. I was afraid that it was "time". She was falling and unable to get up. It was very sad. She would cry and struggle. I can help her up if I'm home. But when I'm at work there's no one to help her get up when she falls.
She perked up the past 2 days, though. She even met me at the door last night, looking for her dinner. She's been much stronger the past couple of days. She hasn't been falling or crying. She spent some time outside, today, sniffing the grass and checking out the yard. She still has a great appetite and really enjoys her food.
She is such a sweet, gentle soul. As long as she seems to find pleasure in life, I'll be happy to do whatever I can for her. So, we take it day-by-day.
Thanks for asking about her! |
