This reporter is in contact with Charlotte Bass-Lily, director of Animal Rescue New Orleans (ARNO.)
She says as of Wednesday morning that they need help now, but no one should risk harm to themselves until the storm eases. The Jefferson Parish location is very difficult to reach with the flooding. (See map below for address.) Here is the situation in Charlotte's words:
"We need as much help as you can get for us. One our dogs got very ill this morning and we had to get him to the only ER open. We have no power. Generator is running fans and lights. The area has had high street flooding since 3:30 am.
Only four volunteers, two are vet techs, are caring for over 100 animals. The storm hit the back of the shelter all night long and still cannot see the damage as the storm is still hitting hard. All the animals and volunteers are in the front of the shelter.
We do need donations for the ER dog as well as our disaster preparation expenses. This summer was horrible for non-profits and we spent money we did not have getting ready for Isaac. I am hoping, God willing, that people will see it in their hearts to help us. [ Donate at www.AnimalRescueNewOrleans.org/donate.html . ANY amount is very welcome.]" |
