ROANE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The Roane County Animal Shelter had an unexpected surprise Monday -- the arrival of 119 cats and kittens.

Shelter volunteers tell WSAZ.com they are not equipped to deal with that many cats. It normally houses about 20 felines comfortably.

The 119 cats were relinquished by an owner who couldn't care for them.

The Roane County Animal Shelter, a small rural establishment, is in need of homes for the cats, as well as cat food and supplies. The greatest need is for canned cat food, litter, litter pans, food bowls and cleaning supplies. Brooms, mops, liquid antibacterial hand soap, Lysol and bleach are in high demand.

For more information, you may contact the shelter from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at 304-927-2555.
