| I have a tuxedo named Haydn. He's 1 of 5 cats in the house. 3 are males and he is the smallest. Though he gets along most of the time with the others, he does sometimes get picked on. He used to be very close to Teddy - another male, but Teddy died of old age. Haydn started spraying after Teddy died and I can't get him to stop. I've tried the kitty Prozac, Buspar (made him pull out his hair), and Ovaban. I've tried the lavender collar and Feliway. Nothing really helps. This can't continue and I'm ready to take him to a shelter at this point out of frustration, though I don't really want to do that because other than this fault, he's a sweet cat. I need help and ideas please! |

I'm not a cat person but you may get more response if you post in Animal Community too. _________________ Want to know what I have been up to? Visit my website!

My male cat started spraying recently, just went wild one day spraying all over the downstairs. I was about to take him to the vet, then decided to try a doggie diaper first. Unfortunately, the one I bought was a bit tight for my 16-pound cat (should have bought the beagle sized diaper but it just seemed so huge). So I squeezed it onto him and he wore it for an afternoon and evening. When I took it off that night, it was completely dry and he never sprayed again. I don't know what started the spraying, but apparently he figured he'd better stop or risk more doggie diapers.
I don't know if this would help in a case where the spraying has been going on for a while, but you might try it. It's certainly better than the shelter. You could also try CatAttract, which attracts some cats, and try having more litter boxes available, more cat trees or high spaces for him to jump up to, etc. |
