ok so does anyone disagree with their vet?
he says Saide is "fat". she's 2 lbs overweight, according to him. does not look fat at all. looked at from behind, she has a good back and side view per the stuff they put out.
cat? yes he's kinda portly. I had put him on a diet. he has lost weight, and now wants to get out whenever he can. fortunately he can only get out in the hall, but its annoying since I have to retrieve him every time. so he gets fed 4 little meals a day, so I can lock him in the bathroom when I take Saide out.
is 2 lbs on a beagle "fat"? she doesnt look fat at all. I have seen many fat beagles; she's not one of them. _________________

What is her body condition score? Ideal would be 4 or 5 out of 10.
Depending on ideal body weight, a dog that has an extra 2 lbs. would be overweight/fat.
If a dog's ideal weight is 20 lbs. an extra 2 lbs. would put that dog into the overweight or fat category.
A pet is considered overweight if it's 10%-20% above its ideal weight and obese if it's greater than 20% above ideal.
And yes, I disagreed with Chance's new vet that she was at a good BCS. Right now she'd be between a 4 and a 5, closer to 4. I like her a little leaner than she is right now. _________________ Want to know what I have been up to? Visit my website!

| We have the same issue here. Maxwell always packs on an extra pound or two over the winter. Same food and exercise amount...just a bit heftier. When spring comes, he slims down. Bella maintains regardless and shadow is a fluctuater like Max. However, Shadow is showing her age and her fluffiness is harder to burn off. |

My dogs are all pretty trim. The oldest ones tend to be thin, but I think that's just from age.
Some of my cats are a bit square or round. But that's their body style. None of my animals is fat.
Maybe your vet is concerned because there is such an obesity problem in Beagles, in general. I've seen Beagles that looked like furry boxes on legs.
I think it's actually a good thing if an animal has a little extra weight. If they get sick and don't eat for a couple of days they can lose a lot of weight very quickly. Having a couple extra pounds on a 30 pound dog doesn't seem like a big deal to me.
I suspect you're the kind of person who would notice if her dog was over-weight and do something about it. |

My old cat, Prissy, has a paunch like that. She had gotten chubby after our other cat died and I didn't scale her food back enough. And her idea of exercise is moving from one comfy spot to another. We have her weight back down, but she still has that flap, which is hard to groom around
I had Sammy at an adoption event and someone implied he was chubby, but he isn't! He has a wide rear-end! |
