|
|
| My siames has been diagnosed with herpes in her eye. The condition is going to be an ongoing condition for which she will need a lifetime of treatment via eye drops. Steroids now to clear up the condition and then antibiotic to keep the condition at bay. I've been told that I have to treat her 2x a day with both drops.... My issue is, my cat is extremely timid & won't let me near her to treat her with the drops, she is VERY smart & hides in places where I cannot reach her. Is there ANYONE out there that has been faced with this same issue... ANY ideas on how to overcome this & her to cooperate with the treatment. I have only been able to successfully treat her once with both drops and its been days now, she is hiding and completely out of reach. I have blocked off all areas for which she can hide, but she still is very fast and hard to get a hold of, therefore, preventing me from successfully getting her treated. I am soooo frustrated and concerned about how to deal with this/treat her..ANY help would be greatly appreciated!!! |

Maybe the steroid and antibiotic come in long acting injectable forms.
Or at the very least there is an ophthalmic solution that contains both types of medication. |

My No See had to be treated with 2 different eye drops 3 x daily...he was blind so i could catch him without a problem but it was difficult to get it in his eyes once he realized what was happening..
you can always crate her so you can get her when you need to put the drops in..
but since your vet feels that this will be a life long treatment, she will become more difficult to treat as time goes on..perhaps you should talk to your vet about removing the eye...cats adapt to the loss of an eye ...it might be less traumatic for both of you in the long run...the eye will only get worse if not treated on a consistent basis.
good luck to you both. _________________ Fisher

| I would get her started on the supplement lysine. [it's known to help cats with herpes-do a google search tons of info out there on it] Maybe that will help clear up her eye. |
