Post subject: Stinky Dog Breath

I've been using a flavored toothpaste for my dog that my vet gave me but his breath still smells really bad. I've heard a liquid tartar control additive that can be added to my dogs water can help but I'm not sure which brand to use. Can someone give me advice on that or any other tips for getting rid of my dogs bad breath?

If your dog's breath still smells that bad, it may be time to have the vet clean them professionally and look for abscesses or other problems in his mouth. You may not be able to see the problems that the vet can once the dog is under anesthesia.

Thanks for the great advice that really helps! I'm just trying to find anything I can to help. I'm going to make an appointment for my dog to see the vet as soon as possible. I didn't think it was something that could be this serious.

Just as you (hopefully) brush your teeth daily, you still can have the occasional dental problem. With dogs it's the same thing. You are doing a world a good by brushing your dog's teeth, but it isn't a substitute for a professional exam.

I would agree to make sure you have your vet inspect your dog's teeth to see if he needs a cleaning. That fixed my dog's breath instantly!
