Post subject: Senior Smiles (January 2010)

I like feeling happy for any animal who has been blessed with a second chance.
Sharing the smiles for these lucky seniors, and a few younger ones I just happen to come across.

From 1/02:
Jebediah and Blackie

Freckles and 09-211

Roxie and Daisy

Setter and Sandra

From 01/09:
John (Thanks for the update, Teddy’s Hope.) and Lady Loo (Thanks for the update, Spartan Mom.)

Knoxy (blind) and Monty

Kolinia (Mostly blind, rescued. Thanks for the update knine.) and Dingo (Thanks for the update, Coalthedodo.)

Riley (Thanks for the update, Teddy’s Hope.) and Wrangler (Wrangler, rescued by Almost Heaven. Thanks for the update, Spartan Mom.)

Kahlua and Mabel (Thanks for the update, Teddy’s Hope.)

From 1/16:
Beatrice and Jake

Carrie and Moira (Thanks for the update on Carrie, Teddy’s Hope. Carrie & Moira came in together from the same household. I think Moira has been adopted by the angels because only Carrie’s on the happy tails page.)

Chief and Sheeba (I think Sheeba’s with the angels too. She was at the same shelter as Chief, but she’s not on the happy tails page.)

Turi and 30725 (Thank you for the updates, knine and Teddy’s Hope.)

Trixie and Norton

Monty (Very little vision, 93 lbs, and strong HW+.)

Update on 1/19 from knine that a rescue was taking him and from his bio I read 1/28:
UPDATE: We just got confirmation from a lab rescue last night. Monty will be going to them on our next transport. They have found a foster home for him. THANKS for the MANY, many emails about him and thanks to everyone trying to help Monty. It is nice to know there are so many caring people out there who love and want to help our homeless cats and dogs.
(My personal thanks to knine for posting the old labs on the lab rescue board.)

Teddi Bear and Pearl (Samanthain, you were hoping someone would give your sweeties a chance for a special life and I’m happy someone did just that.)

Chub (Rescued, thanks for the update goldrush.) and Duncan (Rescued, thanks for the update knine.)

From 1/23:
Lucky and Chalupa (Both adopted 1/22. Thanks for the update on Chalupa, luvpugs.)

Sarah (lost/found – rescued?)

Ginny (lost/found – rescued? Sarah & Ginny were dumped by owner at same time.)

Daisy and Richey

2010-01-108 (Rescued, thanks for the update, Spartan Mom.)

Oscar (Thanks for the update, luvpugs.) and Miley (Thanks for the update, goldrush.)

From 1/30:
Peg

Miss Chow (Thanks for the update, Teddy’s Hope.) and 893-09 (893-09 rescued.)

Lady and Old Lady

Goldie and Herbie (Herbie’s safe in a foster home. Thanks for the update Sage.)

kennel 23 (Rescued.)

And last, this sweet face pup. (Finally adopted in Feb.)
Bless whoever adopted him/her. Wish it was me snuggling up and playing with him/her. (Bio mentions him & her both.)

Those listed below is what I think of as faith, hope & charity. For every bad person, shelter, or rescue out there, there's many more kind and caring hearts.
So many sad stories floating around but sometimes faith in humanity needs a restoration. Here’s a couple I just happened to see in the last couple months. People, shelters and rescues working together.

Just a few "safe because someone cared”, faces.

Bogey (Cary, NC)

http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=15105638
Bogey (on the left): I was found on a golf course by a nice man who was getting a "Bogey" and noticed my sister and I in a ditch. We were both starving. His family took us in, helped us out, and got me into Marley's rescue. I am a really nice guy who gets along with everyone, people of all ages and animals of all types. I am gaining weight and confidence everyday! I listen well and I am easily trained. Pick me and you may have made a perfect score!

Suzette (on the right): I was found wandering a Durham neighborhood by some nice people. Unable to find where I came from they helped me find a rescue and my new foster home. I am great with dogs and cats and I love all the petting I get. I know how to sit and I think I can learn a lot more! I found out that I really like kids too, they say that will make me an excellent family dog. I am already crate trained and am excited about finding a family of my very own. Watch my profile and Sponsor me as I learn and grow or Adopt me and we can share this precious puppyhood time together!

Skye (Raleigh, NC)

http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=15361644
This little 7 week old girl is not ready and we are not accepting applications on her yet. She has hydrocephaly and was born with no eyes beneath her eye lids. so it will be some time before she is well enough for adoption. Her eyes have lids which stay closed right now. She is very cute even though she is developmentally delayed. She was being singled out by her siblings so her breeder decided to drop her at the animal shelter. She's a cute solid blue baby girl. Just one more reason that backyard breeding is a very very bad thing.
SHE IS NOT AVAILABLE RIGHT NOW. If you are interested, please just keep up with her listing. She is a special needs dog.

Brutus (Raleigh, NC)

http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=15299876
He's an owner surrender to an animal shelter. His owner was moving and well, couldn't take his 10 year old AST with him. The shelter couldn't bear to put down this nice dog and had been trying to find foster care for him for over a month. He is moving into foster care at Christmas. He's good with cats and other dogs, fully vetted. Brindle and white with a professional crop to his ears. He deserves a home, not to be abandoned in his golden years. He is a really nice dog. We have listed him as special needs because he is an older dog. He is a healthy dog but our seniors need extra consideration. He's a little chunky and has been put on a diet. (He’s at Annabelle’s Second Chance now.)

Angel (Dallas, TX)

http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=15586911
My name is Angel. I am a two year old, 23 lb. daschund mix. I had been on the streets for a long time when I was finally rescued but I run like the wind! I was llving in a large field by some railroad tracks. It took them 5 months to catch me! They left food out for me but I run like the wind! They said Speedy Gonzales has nothing on me! I had apparently had a litter of pups but they were never able to find them. At first I would growl ferociously, tremble and bite to scare people off, but now I am calm and settled, I am very loving and I was house-trained in just one week! Smart, huh? I know my name, and I am beginning to trust again. I have one bad leg that was broken for a long time and didn't heal properly - the nail on that paw was over an inch long. After much soul searching and medical advice I am having my bad leg amputated. Though I'll be a tripod I'll be as good as new. The vet says it will be much easier for e to get around without carrying the weight of a useless limb. I do have some anxiety issues when my foster Mom leaves me. I'm afraid she won't come back. So I need a little extra TLC until I feel safe again. I deserve a beautiful life to erase the horrors I have been through. I would love being adopted by someone who is home a lot. But I can't wait to find my forever home! Love, Angel
(She's at Metroplex Mutts.)

Gracie (Seagoville, Tx)

http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=14852471
Gracie is a 2-3 year old Female, Red Dachshund that came to our shelter in Dallas very emaciated and HW+. The person who turned her in also had two other dachshunds that were well fed. She would not claim ownership of Gracie. Said she was always hanging around her yard. She is the sweetest dog. Although my home is full, she is staying with me until we can find a foster home or permanent home for her. We will be updating her pictures weekly or if you'd like more info about her, or would like to help by sponsoring her treatment, please email me at fourpawzplus@aol.com
(A.R.F. Animal Rescue Friends.)

Willie Wags (Chase City, VA)

http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=15161935
Willie Wags is a really special dog. He is great in the house and loves to go for long walks on a leash. The photo of Willie was taken when he first came to our rescue and he was thin and his leg had just been operated on. Willie has since lost that leg through surgery and gets around very well on three legs. Willie would make such a wonderful companion for someone that would provide him with a loving forever home. He loves lounging on the sofa, he loves riding in the car, but his favorite thing s to go for long walks on a leash!!!!! A great dog deserves to have a great family!

Charlie the toothless

http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=12775861
Charlie is a wonderful old man. He is fat and happy now,. He was rescued out of a dumpster, left over after hunting season. He has only 3 teeth but manages to eat very well. He loves to go for walks and to talk to you. He gets along well with others and loves to just lay and sleep on the couch. He also loves the much buckets for some reason....Charlie needs a fenced in yard. He is house/crate trained.
(Willie Wags and Charlie are at Blue Horse Mukwa Equine Retirement and Rescue Center .)

Sophie (Coumbia, SC)

http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=15743279
Sophie is such a sweet girl. She was adopted by a loving family who was in the military. When their orders changed they had to move into smaller living quarters and didn't want Sophie to not have the joy of a big yard to play in. They looked hard to find her what they thought was a great home. Sometimes even when you try your best things don't work out as planned. The home turned out to be a bad situation for this little girl and these people neglected her badly. Eventually she found herself in a municipal shelter again - this time she was severly underweight and malnourished. Project Pet stepped in to save this beautiful baby and she is now on the road to recovery. Sophie is a fantastic family dog and will make a wonderful family pet. All she needs is love and a commitment to her for life! Sophie is spayed, heartworm negative, fully vaccinated and microchipped.
(Pet Project rescue.)

Petunia

http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=15624413
Petunia was hit and run over by a car. When she was rushed to Dearborn, we didn't think she was going to make it. Well, this girl has too much heart to give up. Not only did she have a severe abrasion on her chest, one of her hips is so badly dislocated it is going to require extensive surgery. Petunia had also clearly not been cared for--she was thin, malnourished, unsure of people, and strongly heartworm positive. She has begun her heartworm treatment, and has learned that people aren't all bad--she is very attached to her caretakers and gets very excited when she sees them, wagging her little nub of a tail, and if you sit beside her she immediately crawls into your lap for a hug. She also loves having her belly rubbed and getting kissed on her forehead!

Petunia is being treated for heartworms and will be undergoing surgery to repair her hip on 1/28/2010. She will make a wonderful, low-key, easygoing, loving companion for someone. All she wants is a warm bed, attention, and the occasional treat, of course! Petunia doesn't mind other dogs or kitties. Who wouldn't want company like that?
Petunia will be ready for a new home in a few weeks. We are accepting applications for her pre-adoption, which can be filled out on our homepage, dearbornanimalhospital.petfinder.com. Her adoption fee is $150. We also desperately need donations to help cover her extensive medical treatment--any donations can be mailed to Dearborn Animal Hospital (attn: Jillian), 715 East College Ave, Decatur, GA 30030. For more information on Petunia or to make an appointment to meet her, please contact Jillian at judelson1@bellsouth.net

An update on the three senior goldens I posted:

Northbound (Fenton, MI) was already in a rescue when I posted him - but he could use good thoughts and wishes and a home of his own someday.

Kasey (Pruddenville, MI) is now in a rescue

Honey and her sister Piper (Mason, MI) were in a shelter near me. They don't do Happy Tails. But, Honey and Piper were featured on the Pet Page in our local paper, which has a great track record of getting pets adopted. Their listings disappeared right after publication, so I believe they were adopted!

Gotta love those happy endings! Very Happy
