My husband and I have just rescued our first puppy, Kali. A few months back we unfortunately had to give up our dog when we realized he was hotstil toward our newborn son. We've always wanted a dog and wanted our son to grow up with one, so they could be good friends. It was harder for my husband than me but we finally decided we were ready for a puppy. A new addition to our family. The problem, we thought, was finding a puppy with the right temperment for our home, and family. We knew we wanted a German Shephard so we came here, to Petfinder. The first puppy my husband found was a dog two hours way. As soon as we watched the video we fell in love with her. A German and Australian Shephard Mix. Before we met her I called the adoption agency to put a hold on her since we couldn't get there for a few days. We got there a little early, anxious. One of the volunteers asked if we'd like to walk with her to see the other puppy's they had, just in case. I said, "no, we came for her." It was perfect, she had only been there for about a week and was a euthenasia rescue with her sister. They day we saw her online was the day they set up the ad. The volunteer came into the office after I'd already started the adoption paperwork and it was love at first sight. The volunteer put her on my lap and the puppy rested her head on my should against my neck. From the moment we started the ride home, she was a part of our family. Every day she grows warmer, happier, and more comfortable here with us. She did have Kennel Cough when we adopted her but has been on medication since we brought her home. She's gained a little weight so you can't feel her bones as much and she's much more playful. She's going to be the best dog we could have ever asked for. We love our little Kali!!

About ten years ago I adopted a australian shepherd/sheltie mix that I named Cali. It must be a popular name for aussie's!! Unfortunately, I lost my pup to parvo. Sad

Good luck to you and her! Her breed mix will keep you busy, but will also be eager to please and easy to train most likely! With those two breeds, I'd invest in some good frisbees. The herding breeds love to play frisbee, and it's an easy way to wear them out.

So far she has been easy to train. We've only had her a week now and she's almost sitting and lying down. Thank you for the tip on the frisbee's, I will have to get some. She's not much into chasing and fetching now, but I'm sure as she grows she will. I'm looking very forward to the busy part, I'm a stay at home mom, so my son and I will have lots of fun with her. I'm sorry to hear about your puppy, we should never have to lose puppy's. I was very worried that we weren't going to be able to get her the amoxicilllin needed in time because it was a holiday weekend that we adopted her and for some reason she wasn't given any from the agency. But I do look forward to having many years with her. Thank you!
