With a face like that, there's no way I couldn't save it!
The back leg....it isn't purple and looks like it's still getting circulation. Just doesn't bend properly anymore.
The mouse is doing better, but I keep reminding myself that it is a wild animal, and not a domestic one. It probably hates being in a container, but I still don't know if I should let it go? |

| I would call a rehabilitation center. I think you owe it to the mouse to try to save him. |

We live right near a river and on the edge of woods, etc. so we use to get those cute little tiny mice in here all the time. The ones I was able to catch, I would set free, so I know how ya feel.
I would call the rehad, they can at least give you some advice.
Oh, something that worked for us. We figured out that the little mice were getting in around where the pipes run from the fixtures, out of the house, cable lines, etc. We went to Lowes and got some expanding foam stuff that hardens. Has worked great!! Haven't had a mouse in a couple years now. _________________ *Sig under construction* |

Does the people that are saying that you should let him out now know that he has a non-functioning leg? If that wasn't the case then he should of course be released. No reason to keep a healthy wild mouse inside. But he does have an injured leg that may make him a much easier prey. I don't know if keeping him as a pet for the rest of his life is good either but I would want the advice of an expert before I did anything. I wildlife rehab may not be able to take him in but they can at least give advice.
Good luck again. He is totally adorable. |

| Has anyone ever tried to contact a wildlife rescue about a mouse? |

| Oh ok cool! I wasn't sure what they would say. The wildlife rehab by me is not gov't funded or anything and lives only on donations and volunteers. I know they are hesitant on what they take on and not sure if they consider mice, well you know, pests. Not to uh discriminate, but you know, the general attitude towards a mouse is different then a bunny. |

I did contact several wildlife rescues/rehab centers...their advice wasn't any different than what you guys have said. No one was interested in taking a mouse on, especially one that came from inside a house.
But I do have good news! The little --I have a Potty Mouth-- is gone (released the other day), and I think much happier. I had him in a 20 gallon long tank (pretty big for a small thing), but he was not at all happy. Very crazy and hyper, and the lame leg didn't seem to slow him down from bouncing off the walls (literally)! When I first saw him caught (and very squished) in the trap I thought for sure he was dead...I'm happy I was able to rescue, feed, and help extent his life a bit longer.
Mice are cool animals....but if I wanted one as a pet it would be a domestic one .
And any non-humane traps are banned in this house! And I hope the rest of pf has learned from my lesson and does the same :)
