Post subject: NEED HELP

I am only 13 as most of you already know. I can't get a job until next year and I need money. I want soooo badly to help animals but my family doesn't want to and I don't even think they care. Christmas is coming up and it is getting colder and when I think of all the animals that don't have homes it makes me cry. We will all be nice and cozy warm in our homes but think of all the dogs and cats and all animals who will die during the winter because of lack of food disease or just the cold.

My family is starting to ask "What do you really want for Christmas?" What I really want is to help all those poor animals out there who don't have families that care about them. They laugh when I say that and reply "Then when christmas comes around you will be sad that you don't get presents like your sisters." No I will be sad that there are people in the world like them who don't care about animals and that there are animals without homes.

All I want to do is help by donating to the humane society but they won't let me because they don't want to waste their money on some dog. There are pregnant dogs in shelters right now scared to death and without a safe place for their puppies. There are little puppies found on the side of the road withoput their mom. There are senior dogs who aren't wanted anymore because they are too old.

My family doesn't care and I do. So I need ideas on how I can help because I don't get an allowence for doing chores and I can't have a job so how can I help. I volunteer but it has to be a time when my mom wants to go and usually we don't stay too long. I feel like an outsider in my own house.

I thought that maybe I could do that idea about the cookbooks on here but I would have to have money to do that. I need ideas.

Thanks for reading this and thanks to anyone who responds for your ideas.

Thank you for caring so much about the homeless animals. You sound like such a nice responsible kind hearted young lady. Here are a few suggestions that really don't involve any money.

1. You can post on the forums usually rescue or urgent forums for dogs or cats that capture your heart. Usually when an urgent animal is posted people crosspost and it might generate interest in the dog thus getting it rescued or adopted.

2. My child's elementary is having the children collect animal supplies, Example: cat food, dog food kitty litter toys treats. The donated items are going to a pantry where people who have animals but are having trouble paying for their upkeep but still want to have a pet. It saves the animals from getting put in a shelter.

3. You could ask whatever rescue you are interested in helping what types of things they need and start a collection of the items. Alot of times they need old towels, blankets, household cleaners. If you live in a neighborhood that has an association that puts out a newsletter you might find that is an easy way to collect unwanted household items that shelters could use. If you belong to a church sometimes they are looking for volunteer projects to support

good luck to your volunteer efforts.

I have an idea. I've heard this done at a birthday party but I suppose you could do it with a Chrismas party too.

How about if you could have a holiday party for yourself and friends? It doesn't have to be anything fancy: could be just a dogbone shaped cake & ice cream or you could do the hotdogs, chips, etc. thing. The thing is = in the Spirit of the Holidays - you'd request that all attendees bring something to donate to the shelter. - a bag of litter or 4 cans of pet food isn't going to be a big expense to anyone but all together it would make a big difference to your local shelter. Ask your local shelter what they need - usually they have a list - and you could include that list with the party invitations. I would get them to RSVP depending on the expense of the party.

NOTE: I would definitely not include pets in the party. Your folks wouldn't like that.

I figure if people can have all these Tupperware, Pampered Chef, etc. etc. parties - how about having parties for a cause!

I understand it is hard when you want to do good things and you can't for one reason or another. You just have to be patient and do what you can. The fact that you do care about animal welfare is a big plus. There are adults that "don't get it" so you are off to a great start in life.

Kudos!
