Subject: HURRICANE IKE - ANIMAL SERVICES
Importance: High
Miami-Dade Animal Services may need to evacuate the dogs and cats if Hurricane Ike heads our way. Evacuation orders may be issued for Monday. Please monitor the media and emails from me, especially Saturday evening. Volunteer assistance may be needed for the following so please standby and let me know if and how you can assist:
Help set-up sky kennels (possibly on Sunday) where the animals will be transported from the shelter to the Miami Dade Sunshine Pavillion located at: 10901 S.W. 24 Street, Miami (aka Youth Fair)
Volunteers needed to assist at the Sunshine Pavillion during the storm (spot cleaning, feeding the animals, etc) – click on this link: http://www.miamidade.gov/animals/library/pdfs/pet_shelter_booklet.pdf - complete the form and bring with you. You, the volunteer on this special assignment, will need to be self-sufficient with all the supplies for your pets as well as yourself and present rabies vaccination records for each pet should you bring any.
The Sunshine Pavillion will also accommodate the public and their pets in addition to the shelter pets should they be evacuated.
Volunteer assistance needed at the other pet-friendly Hurricane Evacuation center: Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High School 14100 NE 215 Street, North Miami (Aileen will be working that shelter). No shelter pets there, only the public’s pets.
If you can assist, please contact asanche@miamidade.gov
Thank you.
