=========== UPDATE ON "END THE GASSING" CAMPAIGN==================

A) Thanks to many of you hundreds of calls have been made to North Carolina Governor Mike Easley, N.C. Agriculture C om missioner Troxler, and the N.C. Chamber of Chamber of C om merce. Each of these offices have acknowledged receiving a LOT of calls. Please continue to call if you have not y et done so. N.C. Gov. Easley at 919-733-4240 and 919-733-5811, Agriculture C om missioner Steve Troxler at 919-733-7125, and Chamber of C om merce Pres Lew Ebert at 919-836-1407 and tell them that you will boycott N.C. goods and will spread the word about the gassing practices of N.C. Today I was told by an attorney at the N.C. General Assembly that we "you slammed N.C. pr et ty hard." They are feeling the heat big time.

C) A North Carolina st ate senator has been kind enough to have the N.C. General Assembly's Research Unit send us a d et ailed,
st ep by st ep procedure on the adoption of the new "animal control euthanasia rules" which we can follow in our efforts to include an "End The Gassing" rule.

D) Because of the failure to include the banning of gas killing in the new rules being adopted by N.C., we have decided to force the delay of the implementation of ANY of the new rules, and even DEFEAT the new rules if it does not contain the ban on gassing as originally proposed. Today, North Carolina residents have filed formal objections to the lack of inclusion of the banning of gas killing, which by N.C. law, will delay the implementation of the entir et y of the rules until Jan 31, 2009. B et ween now and Jan 31, 2009 we mu st find N.C. State Senate and N.C. House of Representative members to introduce legislation to permanently kill the new rules. If you live in N.C. or know anyone in N.C. please l et us know and we will assi st you on contacting your elected representative reque st ing that he/she introduce the legislation killing the new rules which do not ban gassing.

E) Others outside of N.C. can help garner national m om entum for the "End the Gassing" campaign by sending a fax to your US Senator and Congressman, reque st ing that he/she introduce federal legislation banning the use of gas to kill p et s. Below is the link to a web site which provides the fax numbers of every US Congressperson for you to find yours. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME A NATIONAL EFFORT IS BEING UNDERTAKEN TO OUTLAW KILLING OF PETS BY GAS. We can only hope to succeed if everyone who reads this takes a few m om ents to do what is being reque st ed. Please l et us know when you contact your US Senator and Congressperson.

F) S om e of us have attended the Democrat Party local platform input me et ings being held right now in every c om munity. At the me et ing we attended la st night there was almo st unanimous support to add "End the Gassing" to the Democratic platform. Please continue to attend those me et ings. They are only being held until July 29th. You can find out when and where the me et ing near you is by putting in your zipcode at http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/listening. You do not have to be a Democrat or Obama supporter to attend these me et ings to sugge st that "End the Gassing" be included in the platform. After July 29, we will inform you on how to sugge st this issue onto the Republican Party platform.

G) Others in Colorado are doing fund raising for $10,000 to buy gigantic billboards across fr om Oprah's st udios in Chicago and one in N.C., which is how Oprah decided to do the puppy mill show when an animal benefactor bought that same billboard on the puppy mill issue. FYI, the Illinois State House passed a law banning gas killing but it has been weakened significantly with a loophole.
