This is a copy of an email that was sent to me. I thought it was important to share it with as many people as possible. Please feel free to cross post.

Guess this is a 'heads up' about a new product on the market called
Promeris, maufactured by Ft. Dodge.
beth
This is a very important message to my family & friends who have
dogs-cats--and to alert you to the hazard of using a new Flea & Tick
Preventative called ProMeris http://www.promeris com/consumer/ .
This is a new product designed to be a more effective product than other
flea/tick treatments that was just released this year. It is available
thru a vet and not currently on-line. I got ProMeris this week for my 7
dogs (6 Huskies & 1 Golden-Airedale) , and the results were debilitating
for nearly all of them-including me. Since my incident this week, my vet
has pulled it from distribution and alerted the manufacturer, Fort Dodge
Here are my results: Within less than 2 hours after applying, 4 of my dogs
had vomited from 2-4 times, 3 were disoriented and stumbling, 1 was
dragging his back leg, 1 was salivating. I had very similar symptoms like
an allergic reaction-my lips were swollen, eyes very red, mucous membranes
such as eyes, nose, and mouth were stinging. I was very disoriented-dizzy
equilibrium and not able to drive. To make this a short story-all 7 of my
dogs were admitted to the hospital for veterinarian care, and 3 of them
remained for care, IV fluids and observation for 24 hours. I was in the
emergency room. I'm home now and so are the dogs. We're all feeling much
better. Vet bills were over $2,500 and Fort Dodge is paying for
these. Not only can the product cause this reaction, it has a highly noxious odor
that permeated the house and is just starting to dissipate after 3 days.
Your dogs/cats might not have the same reaction, but given my experience-I
wanted to help you all become well-educated about the product. |

I'm glad you posted this, I saw a commercial and was thinking about trying it out, the others weren't working very well last year.
All of my dogs/cats are either sensitive in general (eat the wrong thing they throw up, react strongly to any drugs) or are prone to skin problems, so I'm sure it would not have gone over well. _________________ Why we do what we do

| Im going to have to tell my boss about it, even thought he probably got a report on it. People were asking about it and he said he doesnt use anything that is new, he waits until they are out a little while just to be sure it safe. Ft Dodge is a major vaccine manufacturer (sp) also. |

Are you sure this is true? Usually these e-mails which spread faster than wildfire around the internet turn out to be hoaxes.
How come this is the only e-mail about it, have other people had problems with it?
I'm not going to post that anywhere else or pass it around until I see more proof that this product is a problem. |

When no person will put their name on it be very suspicious.
Wyeth owns Ft. Dodge and no such product is listed on their site.
If anyone's animals and they were so adversely affected by a product,
the FDA should have been contacted. Nothing on their recall site either.
Is anyone finding anything on this stuff? |

I agree. While I'm going to be cautious about using the product myself, I'm not going to spread the rumor. Shoot, it might have been started by the people who make Frontline. A way to contact the person who had such a negative experience would have been helpful.
I must have received this email 6 times in the last few days, and saw it on 4 or more different boards. Ahhh, the power of the internet. |

| At work today I can see if we got any reports on it. If it was sent to us, it is more than likely a warning about the possible side effects and it would be from the company. |

Exactly.
Remember when Diamond Foods had a problem and recalled their products, it was front page of their website as well as the FDA and every news website.
I checked the Wyeth/Ft Dodge website as well as the FDA and found nothing about a recall. |

There was a name at the bottom of the email but I left it out when posting it on this board.
Of course I have no idea if it's true or not. I got it as a forwarded email from a local rescue. I thought I'd post it in case it is true and people can choose for themselves what they want to do with the info.
But, just because there is no recall listed on any site does not mean that it isn't true. If it is true this is what happened in one family with seven dogs. I certainly hope that a company doesn't go and recall a product after one incident in one family. Who knows, maybe she applied it wrong. Maybe they were taking some other medications or supplement that caused a reaction along with the flea med. Who knows. When the pet food recall happened they had got complaints for a while but didn't recall until it was clear that it was widespread.
It may be true, it may not be, it may be an isolated incident, but it doesn't hurt to take precautions. I personally won't try it until it's been on the market a little longer and I know for sure what effect it has. |

I wouldn't count on Fort Dodge posting anything about a recall....remember this is the same company that claimed ProHeart 6 was perfectly safe as well, it wasn't until far too many dogs died and lawsuits filed that they finally pulled it.
My vet refuses to use any products made by Ft. Dodge - doesnt' trust them. |

Yes, they in 2006 or so they claimed that there was an issue with the duration of it's efficacy...I, personally, don't believe it, considering there is plenty of literature out there indicating that rabies DOES NOT need to be repeated yearly and the immunities last for approx. 7 years.
I am not a fan of vaccinating yearly anyway and choose to follow Dr. Dodd's protocols. |

Can access ProMeris site but not via Wyeth and they own Ft. Dodge. I
find that odd. Anyhow, these problems should have been reported to the
FDA.
If you can, send this info to the originator and get it yanked if it's for real.
The vet should have done this already.:
