For Immediate Release:

Humane Society of Southern Arizona Receives Petfinder Foundation Grant

Tucson, AZ--The Petfinder.com Foundation has announced a $15,000 grant to the Humane Society of Southern Arizona to help with the care of the over 750 dogs recently seized in an animal hoarding case. The Petfinder.com grant will be applied to vaccines and other veterinary needs the dogs will have, according to Nancy McKenney, executive director of the Petfinder.com Foundation. The Humane Society estimates that it will cost the organization approximately $150 a day to care for each dog.

In partnership with Merial Limited’s Paws to Save Pets™ program, the Petfinder.com Foundation is also sending the Humane Society of Southern Arizona veterinary supplies, such as Frontline® and Heartgard® and other Merial vaccines, recognizing that the expenses to provide the proper care for such an overwhelming number of dogs will be a challenge to recoup from this case.

“We are pleased to be able to offer financial and in-kind relief to the Humane Society of Southern Arizona,” explains Betsy Saul, President of the Petfinder.com Foundation and co-founder of Petfinder.com. “This support is exactly why the Foundation was established and demonstrates how our individual and corporate donors care about homeless, abused and neglected animals and the local animal organizations that care for them.”

The Petfinder.com Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization, was created in 2003 to assist adoption partners through problem solving, fundraising and providing relief in times of stress or disaster. Its mission is to ensure that no pet is euthanized for lack of a home.
