So you think you want to come to an Adoption Options seminar or you've already signed up but don't know what to expect. Well, here's what a typical day is like. Feel free to post comments or questions.

Registration begins at 9 am. Once you arrive at the location, check in with us at the registration table. We'll check your name off the roster, give you a folder of handouts and point you in the direction of the free T shirts and other give aways. You'll fill out a name tag. Grab a cup of coffee and a danish and find a place to sit. Start checking out name tags to see who else is there.

We'll start the day at 9:30 with some housekeeping announcements and a quick introduction from all the groups in attendance. I'll send a roster of attendees to everyone via email after the AO so you'll all be able to stay in touch. Be sure I have your email address!

After the morning introductions, you'll hear from the PETCO Foundation about how to apply for grants and work with them as an adoption or fundraising partner.

Then you'll hear from a Petfinder employee who will go over all of the various tools and programs available on Petfinder that can help you increase adoptions, raise money and save money. Then we'll get into detail about host to post your pets to get the best response from potential adopters.

Then it's break time! Refill your coffee, take a "comfort" break and start talking with your fellow attendees.

After break, there will be another great topic to help you increase your adoptions and improve your programs. Then we'll break for a vegetarian lunch. All lunches are vegetarian, but if you require a vegan lunch, just let us know and we'll have that arranged for you. We usually do a boxed lunch or pizza so you can get out of your seats easily. You can take a walk outside or around the facility or better yet, sit with other attendees and talk about what you're each doing. This is a great way to get ideas and support.

After lunch, sometimes we'll hear from a sponsor who has a program or tool that might make your life a little easier and sometimes we'll head right into the next speaker.

Then we have a quick comfort break and the last speaker of the day will go.

We always leave time for questions and the speakers are pleased to speak with you one on one anytime during the day. The schedule may vary a little bit based on the topics and speakers there.

Once the day is over, you'll head home energized and ready to implement all the new ideas you heard about. I hope you'll come here to the message boards and join the discussion about the day. This is the time to share your experiences and thoughts with the other attendees and anyone who wanted to be there but couldn't.

After a few days, you'll receive an email from me containing the roster of attendees. If you want copies of any of the presentations, just reply to this email and I'll send them to you. We don't provide paper copies of the handouts. We love animals and we love trees too so we try to minimize our environmental impact by keeping things electronic.

So I hope that gives you an idea of how things go. And I really hope we'll see you live and in person at an Adoption Options some day soon!
