Post subject: Pasado Rescue: Dog Jets to Seattle from New Orleans tonight!
|Last Home for Hank!
After surviving the Katrina flood waters, Hank – a 7-year-old Golden Retriever, “floated” for over two years to over ten different homes…
Now, he gets his forever home ... In Washington State!
He jet sets to Seattle from New Orleans tonight!
Hank swam for his life as Hurricane Katrina swept away his house. The gentle Golden Retriever survived, but that’s when his tragedy began.
Hank made it out alive with his owner, who had to move over and over again – a total of ten times, until she finally re-located to a New Orleans apartment. And that’s when she faced reality: she could no longer care for the 7-year-old purebred Golden Retriever. It was enough to take care of herself. (Below, before he was given up to the shelter.)
Hank has been cared for by the wonderful folks at A.R.N.O. in New Orleans for a year - but now he will roam 28 acres in the Pacific Northwest at the only no-kill shelter in the U.S. for senior dogs - A.A.R.F.F. - The American Association of Retired Felines and Fidos at Pasado's Safe Haven!

Pasado’s Safe Haven, is a national animal rescue agency based in Washington State. “We had hundreds of volunteer rescuers in New Orleans during the aftermath of Katrina. In the end we saved 1200 dogs, cats, and other pets,” says Susan Michaels, Pasado’s Safe Haven’s Founder. “Now, over two years later, we need to save one more. Hank! ”
Fat (a little too!), happy, and thyroid condition
Hank's owner overindulged him, to say the least. He was nearly 150 pounds. He been on a diet and has been diagnosed with thyroid problems, but he'll be placed on a diet-restrictive menu, with room to run in the Northwest, and taken every Friday to a river to swim his heart out!
Hank will board a flight out of New Orleans, headed for Washington State tonight . Once in Washington State, he’ll live in A.A.R.F.F., 28 fenced acres in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, on-site at Pasado’s Safe Haven. “No animal lives in a cage at Pasado’s,” says Michaels. “The dogs have heated cabins that they share. They roam gentle walking paths under a canopy of cedar and fir trees. It’s truly ‘dog heaven’.”
Hank will be able to live out his life in this idyllic setting able to enjoy his golden years in style.
