| I won't have a chance to come back for a while. Had a few today minutes today & was poking around. Found this article about a Ft.Lauderdale vet: http://www.nbc6.net/news/4951339/detail.html click on the slideshow link, think it's the 6th photo. It's a horrible photo to ID from - BUT the size and colors of the dog look SO RIGHT! I really think it could be Fancy! |

Hi Oscarmom,
Thanks, that's exactly the photo (there's 4 people in the photo - all of whom seem to be working on the small bundle of fur that is a dog of what appears to be the correct breed).
Fancy's lost report:
http://disaster.petfinder.com/emergency/rescue/reportDetail.cgi?id=54672
Notice the white fur along the back/neck area. I seem to remember we had a discussion at one point about the placement of those markings.
Last I heard we had video of her with rescuers, but it was never determined which group/rescue and I don't believe we ever even were able to pin down which part of the country she was spirited off to.
Found some info on the doc involved and some related info (no other sign of Fancy that I spotted) in case someone is trying to follow up on the info):

animals were to end up at Broward Humane, but on one of the earlier stories I also noticed Tri-County Humane listed.

somewhat related, came up because there’s a mention of Ft. Lauderdale, rescuer states he doesn’t think he’ll be reuniting a lot of the animals he rescued (photos of a few dogs, including at least one GSD – btw, he mentions one GSD he rescued he would not be returning to owner; ALSO THERE IS 1 VERY GRAPHIC PHOTO ):

someone did some great work and made good notes w/photos regarding Katrina Cocker Spaniels & suspected mixes (Shih Tzu, Poodle, Havanese and more). Lost and MANY found listings (if anyone is still working on Tobias the Shih Tzu mix I’d suggest double-checking your notes to be sure you’ve considered some of the found mixes noted here, especially this “guy” ID#A001201 tracking number is LA1285, # PF30156 – gender was not specified, person had contacted for rescue info – looks like there was no response):

these people were in Bayside Par, MS and rescued some dogs:

(will post some of the info that's only loosely related as a separate topic also so people that are looking for other pets can find the info)
I have not posted this topic on NOLA. |

Hi PK,
Thanks for the link to the old PF post - I missed out on that you guys had found that photo previously... it was new to me. Looks like we have consensus on our end that there's a high probability it is Fancy, but we never heard back from the owner as to her thoughts. I'd actually stumbled across the boat video a while back that was briefly mentioned in the old PF post and had passed it along to LeAnne, Susan and I think Stealth too (so you should be able to get to the video should anyone need it).
So it seems we have another dog that has disappeared into the black hole that is Florida. I remember Broward being less than helpful. PK, PLEASE check any of the pet stores you go to and any local rescue sites you know of since this is the Katrina anniversary month. Keep your eyes peeled for print only info especially. Many rescues will have new volunteers by now that may not know to also keep certain photos offline when doing anniversary issues of news letters, etc... keeping my fingers crossed and eyes open. |
