so we are desperately in need of new couches and The Brick has leather ones on sale (what a surprise!) yet again.
I'm concerned about the cat (Bailey)
sharpening his claws (which I do cut btw) on my new leather couch, although hubby says they like fabric for that.
So, do you have a leather couch and does your cat use it for a scratching post? _________________ waiting for a home - Ben

I have had a large leather couch for about 3 or 4 months now.
I also have a small child, 3 cats and 2 dogs.
My couch still stands intact.
My cats have not tried to use it as a scratching post
My cats have not tried to pee on it
My dogs have not wanted or tried to chew on it.
However my cats have actually taken to this one spot on the back of it where they have claimed territory over it, it has a permanent indentation of where my cats have slept.
The only thing I regret is not trimming their claws often enough.
Sometimes when the cats are running from each other or from the dogs they slip and a nail digs into the leather, though you really wouldn't notice anything unless you put your eye ball up to the scratch. |

| Microfiber is the way to go. I just bought a new one and it holds up great to pets |

I wouldn't get leather but I guess it's a personal choice. I don't like how cold they are in the winter and sweaty in the summer. They are easy to keep clean though. My parents had one they gave away cause of the reasons I mentiioned-- also my mum did not find it comfortable to do her quilting on.
They do have a cat and she never bothered with it-- and she's a 4 paw polydactyl-- if she claws something-- you know it!
I think cats are more likely to claw at a cloth couch-- my boys sure like one of ours-- I let them cause it's a garage sale special-- as long as they don't claw my antique chair, I'm happy. _________________

I really wondered about the microfibre, I really like it.
I don't particularly like leather.......hubby is the one that likes it and it's on sale, which he also likes.
Bailey is pretty good about clawing our fabric one, course he does know the meaning of "NO!!!!!!", lol
Guess I'll try and convince him to go micro-fabric _________________ waiting for a home - Ben

I'm usually not a leather person either I don't really own anything that's real leather that I can think of until now.
However this couch, after going to many places, was just SO soft to sit on I had to have it. ^_^
I have problems sleeping and often can not sleep in a bed, so I have to have a good couch.
It's the type where just about anyone is doomed if they lay down on it, you WILL fall asleep.
My cats are clumsy, and yes one of them is a Polydactyl as well, I had to have something that my cats or rat or rabbit couldn't get their claws stuck in (and therefore destroying the fabric). |
