I'm 34 and have never heard of one! Of course, I live in SmallTown Ohio, so that makes a difference.
Next question is, what does everyone do with the poo? Can it be composted? I'm sure the garbage men hate me with 4 big dogs...

yes, If you put in the oven for 1 hour at 160 degrees than let it decompose for 1 year after that. People who collect it just throw it away.

I saw it on tv once and I thought it was a good idea. The guy was making a pretty good living at it. I have some mobility issues and sometimes wish there was someone I could call if the price was decent. But not 40 bucks.

I'm in agreement with you, unless you live on an acre +plus $40. is too much. Unless there is a large amount rquiring more than 40 minutes to clean. I'd say about $20.00 weekly

I've seen them listed in the phone book, but I've never tried it. Personally, I wouldn't mind using it during winter and spring break, lol. During the cold months, I send Jake out before bed and just stand inside the door watching. That just seems easier than going out in -20 degree weather and scooping it up. I freeze just standing by the door (but then again, I'm too lazy to go find my coat and put on some boots, lol). And when spring comes around, I don't think there's anyone who looks forward to discovering the undetected poop, now soggy and runny and distributed throughout the yard. Oy, I still have nightmares of that one spring a couple of years ago. It was soup city!

That's one disadvantage to having a yard, lol. If you had to have the dog out on a leash, it'd be easier to scoop, but when you have a fence, you "let things slide" lol

I've seen one around. I see their car magnets all the time. They're called "Doodie Calls" which I think is a very catchy name.

I don't have a dog, so that's beside teh point. It is however a job that I would not want.

People who do this for a living do for the freedom it allows, the money it
brings and the people they get to interact with as you know, most people wtih pet are usually very nice people. And yes, the name is very clever.

I have the best service of all-my husband. He doesn't mind doing it, and it is free. Mostly the dog likes to go when we are on a walk anyways. Then I have to pick it up.

Most services only charge about $20 or less, you should check with your area company. Some depending on yard size can be under $10.-Treat yourself!!! 8)

I cant imagine what I would do if I kept my dog in the backyard...I've seen pet waste removal services but I dont think I would use one, my brother picks it up for free!

Also at any age there are a lot of things a person has not seen, someone who picks up dog waste as a profession not being one of the most profound ones. Wink

I would not use a roofer if my bother would do it for free. Yes, but at 15 years old your experience is very limited, but not as limited as 25 or 35,etc. People who pick dog doo, are not partial to doo, that is a limited view. The attraction is much broader than that. Like being your own boss,
the freedom and the people and let's not forget the driving force of all businesses the profits.

Pet Peeve are you looking to get into this business. I don't think anyone is looking down on doo picker uppers I guess some just have never heard of it. Your talking to a group of people that pick up lots of poop so to us it seems odd for someone to pay for something we have just always done and plenty of it. If you can make a living doing a job no one is crazy about doing. Why not?

and for the record pp, just because a person is 15, doesn't mean their experience is limited. LfM happens to be a very experienced young lady and has done a lot of good things in her young life already.

I've always cleaned up after my 3 large dogs and there was never a time in my life when I did not have a dog, or p*** to pick up. I find it to be a new spin on an old idea- Clean up the pet waste in backyard. and I think its a great I idea. I did not view it as anyone looking down on me or the profession. I was simply offering an explanation as to why people do it. And I understand the view of it being odd, It was odd when bottle water was first mentioned, now it makes millions.

For the record I am not implying you don't live and experience things until your over 15. I have met a lot of 15 years old who are wonderful mature 15year olds. Who have done a lot of wonderful things for a 15 year old, but if your a lucky 15 year old, you have not experienced a lot ,because you have a you have a wonderful mother and father and you are not working a full time job with a hushand, children and a household to maintain. At least not if your lucky. I am 72 years old with 3 dogs, and a husband living on a farm in PA, and I still love orginal ideas-life's new offerings.
