Dear Forum Readers:
La Roca A.C is an organization devoted to run a dog Shelter in Veracruz, Mexico you can visit our website and see for yourself:
www.laroca.org.mx
Sections Translated: - Albergue - Shelter: Pictures of our shelter
- Adopciones - Adoptions: Some of the dogs we have up for adoption
- Logros - Achievements: some pictures of succesful adoptions
- Donativos - Donations: For any contribution to the cause
We as almost any other rescue group live from donations but as you can see in the photos of out shelter section we are lacking from funds and we are even in debt with many local vets. We currently house more than 35 dogs and almost the same number in cats in the house of one of our members.
The reason for this topic is to ask all of the people on this forums if they can help us to continue with our mission of saving dogs from the streets, believe us, the situation in Mexico is a lot worst than in the US.
If some of you could donate money or any other useful stuff we would be really grateful and also if you could put us in contact with other groups that support this cause and that might help us we would really appreciate it too.
For any donations: www.laroca.org.mx/donativos.htm we use Paypal for single donations and we can also handle subscriptions with Paypal. We also accept internation bank transfer our international bank account number is in the website.
For anything else you can email me at: webmaster@laroca.org.mx
Thanks for your time and please excuse me if my english wasn't the best. |

| I am one that feels we should care for US dogs and US people first and foremost. I know it may sound bad but there are to many people and animals suffering in our country for me to send any money to other countries. I could be wrong but it is just how I feel. |

I think raising consciousnous about the plight of animals the world over can help all animals. And also help people by promoting kindness. I regularly give to organizations that help animals the world over. I am especially touched by the plight of dogs in Korea that are brutally killed, sometimes torn apart while still alive, for food.
Sometimes I wonder how deaf humans are not to hear all the cries of pain and agony from human and animal alike on this planet. |

having lived in veracruz years and years ago, I vote for helping the animals there. one of our dogs we brought back from there was mexican born. I had even found a home for her but at last minute could not part with her. she had grown up with my american born dog. in america, she waas discovered to have heart worm. she survived that and lived to approx 12 yrs old. She was a plain white dog with a black muzzle. one morning I was walking my dog early among the houses at the navy base there (because she hated my husband's boss so had to walk her early!) and we saw a white dog lying on the ground with a chicken between her front paws. I said (in english) "arent' you a good dog not to be hurting that chicken?" She cocked her head at me and got up and followed us around. when we got back to my house, she left. the next morning I was walking again and only saw the sailor who was on patrol with his rifle. i turned a corner and suddenly i was jumped on. it was the chicken dog. After that every morning she waited for her walk. I never gave her a treat. she just liked to walk with us.
one morning i went to get her to go to the nearby beach with us. a truckful of fishermen came by and I was all alone there except for the two dogs. my dogs kept barking so the truck left--thankfully! (and as the sailors reminded me, that was why they patrolled with rifles for our safety)
this same dog had siblings in many different colors--all with same black snout. one smaller pretty red hound mix I found had horrible terrrible teeth. they were rounded --she was so badly nourished. we took her to the vet in the town of Veracruz and he found her a home that would feed her.
that said, I do not know this group in Veracruz nor do I know anyone to locally investigate and prove they are who they say they are. I hope they are legitimate as the animals there- as everywhere- need people to care for them. Perhaps this group could see if a major group like the Humane Society or Best Friends knows anyone local who could substantiate their claims so they can get some financial help?
I do know that when we lived there, the english language paper would even have warnings for Cuernavaca for any animal lovers to keep their pets inside as poison meat was going to be placed around to cut down on the local stray dog population--their version of animal control. |

Thanks to all the people supporting international help im more than welcome for someone to verify that our shelter is legitimate.
Does anyone know if we can sign up to be linked from any american animal protection websites? So they know we exist
Any other tips in getting international help? Please im new at this of asking for help outside of my country and i have never found such a difficult thing to do.
Thanks to everyone and really if you cant help us in any material or economic way your comments or suggestions are really valuable and welcome at any time.

i'm also wondering how you could tap into the tourist trade---i know there is a group here in NY who rescue from Puerto rico i believe. probably because oneof their members visited there on vacation and saw the problems dogs face there.
does the english language newspaper print any stories about your group? is there a link online? also maybe you could get local merchants to "adopt" a dog or cat and pay for an ad in the english language paper that tourists would read and see them. way to get you publicity and the local merchant to get good will from other animal lovers.

I haven't been to where this is in Mexico, but I have been to Cabo San Lucas and it was so sad. There were stray dogs (many very thin and of course, dirty) in EVERY SINGLE alley or side street. There was one situation that just broke my heart: There were a bunch of people in a crowd walking and shopping and in the middle of the crowd was a dog, standing still and looking so scared and sad and wanting to be loved and no one even glanced at him...it just broke my heart . My uncle has the house in Cabo, but I wish I was the one living in Cabo so I could have been able to take home these poor street dogs |

| It would be helpful if there was an English version available on the shelter's website. If people here can read first-hand about the animals and the situation there, it will hit home a little harder. |
