Seen those TV commercials that use the "shock" factor to promote public awareness to certain issues? I know you have. The shock factor ads I see quite abit are "TRUTH about smoking" and "Don't Drink and Drive". Initially when these commercials first aired, I thought to myself, OMG I can't believe they're running this on national television. But as I thought about it some more, I realized that the point of the message came across crystal clear.
I don't know if anyone else has ever thought of this but I'm saying it. Do you think using fur from euthanized animals can help bring awareness to the hugely over-population of dogs and cats?
I believe there could be several angles to go about this. Firstly, the fur would only be taken from those pets that have been euthanized. The fur could be turned into a blanket or a lap-type-warmer; with the pet's name on it (like "Charlie") and the date of birth and euthanization. I know that I'd definitely think twice about breeding and or purchasing from a pet store, if I saw one of these. In addition, the money gained from selling these would go towards rescue groups and shelters.
I know the cost to market this idea(ex. the labour of making such product) probably far out weighs the income you'd make. But I think the idea itself would turn alot of heads and maybe get people thinking a little--alot--more... ^___^
Thoughts on this? I'm no doubt, way out there and have probably offended some of you. Apologies in advance. It was just me thinking. |

I dont know about that.
Who would buy a euthanized animal pelt? Who would pay for the expense of having them skinned and cured? Not me. Creepy.
I appreciate your brain storming, though. |

| What about something like the AIDS quilt? Have each state send in a quilt square designed by someone in the state with the approximate amount of animals pts due to owner surrenders, never claimed pets in the local kill shelters. Once it is assembled, send it on a nationwide tour to encourage discrimminate breeding, spay and neutering and pet commitment. |

Now that's a good idea. |

I agree the idea is creepy, estrella. Though a part of me thinks it could work, minus all the technicalities, like paying for the cost of work labor--not to mention--finding a crowd that would buy one... Eh.

This IS a good idea. I wonder if photos could be put onto the quilts instead of just a number or names..? |
