Cold Case Cockers
Cocker Spaniel Rescue of East Texas
A finalist in the 2008 Maddie's Fund Marketing Competition, submitted by Karen Temple, Cocker Spaniel Rescue of East Texas, The Woodlands, Texas.
Earlier this year we came up with a concept to draw attention to our hard-to-place Cocker Spaniels. A take-off on the television show "Cold Case Files," we call the publication Cold Case Cockers because the dogs have been in our program at least six months. The articles also focus on senior dogs and dogs with behavior or health issues.
Cold Case Cockers is published on the front page of our Web site, www.cockerkids.org. Visitors click on a link to read the pdf version. Visitors can click on Cold Case Updates to see which cases have been solved, in other words, the dog has been adopted. Carrying out the Cold Case theme, the articles are stamped Case Closed. Visit http://www.cockerkids.org/coldcase.html to view this page of our Web site. The first part of the article provides information about a particular dog. The second part of the article discusses the related health or behavior issue. Three of the four dogs spotlighted have been adopted Cosmo, Hersey and Brogan.
Information about Cocker Spaniel Rescue of East Texas Cocker Spaniel Rescue of East Texas serves the greater Houston, Texas, area. We cover about 5.4 million square miles with a population of roughly 5.2 million people. We have no paid volunteers and do not operate a shelter. Most of our dogs are in foster homes, although some are at boarding facilities. We deal with approximately 350 dogs a year, placing around 250 dogs annually and having another 100 in foster care, including eighteen considered Forever Fosters because for one reason or another it is unlikely they will ever be adopted. We screen adopters through an application process. The adoption fee is $200. Dogs are up to date on immunizations, spayed or neutered and treated for other health issues including heartworms, cataracts, dry eye, cherry eye, eye infections, ear infections, ear ablation surgery, luxating patellas, hip dysplasia, skin issues and anything else our vets find. We are a 501(c)(3) organizations governed by a Board of Directors.
