puppy-bowl-gridiron.jpg All week we've been showing off the all-rescue stars of this year's Puppy Bowl. (Check out the starting lineup, some of our favorite players and the pigs, kittens and bird of Puppy Bowl VIII.) Now, as the puppies take to the field on Animal Planet, we're giving everyone a virtual backstage pass.

After the jump, take a look at our behind-the-scenes photos and find out which puppy got adopted onsite by a Puppy Bowl staffer!

This Sunday, puppies from shelters and rescue groups will take the field for Animal Planet's eighth annual Puppy Bowl. (Meet some of our favorite players!)

Animal Care and Control of NYC brought the 20 Kitten Halftime cats.
But they won't be the only Petfinder alumni there. Five piggy pep squad members will squeal their delight, 20 kittens will play during halftime and Meep the Cockatiel will "tweet" the game from the stadium. (Follow @meepthebird on Twitter.)

Can't wait for Sunday? After the jump: a sneak preview of Puppy Bowl's kittens, pigs and bird -- some of whom are still adoptable!

Today, we're sharing some of our favorite players -- some of whom are still waiting for forever homes. Come back on game day for exclusive behind-the-scenes photos!

After the jump, meet 23 Puppy Bowl pups. Come back on Friday to meet the kittens from the kitten halftime show, the pigs of the piggy pep squad and the bird who will be live "tweeting" the game!

Did you know that all the animals featured on Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl are Petfinder alumni? That means all the puppy players, all the kittens in the kitten halftime show -- and even this year's new piggy pep squad and the bird who will be "tweeting" the action -- came from Petfinder shelters and rescue groups.

Brandy (who's adopted!) came to Puppy Bowl via Pennsylvania SPCA.
Puppy Bowl VIII airs Sunday, Feb. 5 from 3-5 p.m. ET/PT -- but you can visit AnimalPlanet.com for a sneak peek at this year's starting lineup, including Brandy (right).

As we were last year, associate producer Jane Harrell and I were lucky enough to meet all of this year's puppies (check back here on game day for exclusive behind-the-scenes photos).

The puppies are just as cute in person as they are on TV. But the real MVPs are the adoption group staff and volunteers who travel to New York City from as far away as Texas and California to show millions of viewers the adorable pets waiting to meet them at shelters and rescue groups!

Beth Skewis and Jackson relax in the Puppy Bowl green room.
Puppy Bowl VII is airing right now on Animal Planet, and since all the "players" are Petfinder alumni, we picked two of them to get DNA tests from our partner, Canine Heritage Breed Test. Today we're sharing the results.

Two Face and Jackson's results are in!

In case you missed them, check out Two Face's results. The results for Jackson, the lucky rescue puppy from Pet Assistance League of Virginia in Stafford, are below.

Jackson
While no breeds were identified as primary or secondary, there were some very interesting results in the "In the Mix" category. Jackson's new adopter (and former foster mom) Beth Skewis e-mailed to tell us the news. (That's right, she adopted him!):

Read below for Two Face's results, then come back at 4 p.m. ET today to find out what Jackson's test revealed.

Two Face
Most of you guessed Two Face was part Great Pyrenees because of his woolly coat and love of cold weather. But the CHBT test ruled that breed out.

We also knew Two Face's results would reveal some Boxer in the mix. (His mother, Sissy, is mostly Boxer.) But the second result might surprise you.

Thirteen gets ready for Puppy Bowl.
As the Packers take on the Steelers this Sunday, more than 30 former Petfinder puppies will be on a different gridiron in Animal Planet's 7th annual Puppy Bowl (Feb. 6 at 3 p.m. ET).

Those puppies have all been adopted, but plenty of adorable Petfinder pups are still waiting for forever homes -- including many who share names with this year's Super Bowl stars.

Meet a few of them after the jump.

Jackson
Jackson was taken in by the Pet Assistance League of Virginia in Stafford at six weeks old. Transferred from a West Virginia shelter where he was due to be euthanized, Jackson got a fresh start with PAL foster volunteers Dave and Beth Skewis.
