Help pit bull type dogs and hang bully-loving ladies on your wall at the same time! The 2013 Pinups for Pitbulls calendar features 14 months and 16 full photo sets, all in the Norman Rockwell theme celebrating the human-canine bond. Having been a fan of the Pinups for Pitbulls calendar since its inception, I was beyond honored this year when my dog and I were chosen to model for the calendar!
Pinups for Pitbulls’ mission is to educate people about the history, temperament and plight of the Pit Bull-type dog. Through the calendar and a series of educational seminars, community outreach initiatives and fund-raising events, the non-profit organization raises awareness about discriminatory laws against bully breeds.
Pinups for Pitbulls, Inc. (PFPB) was founded in 2005 by Deirdre “Little Darling” Franklin. Her unique idea to celebrate the rich history of bully breed dogs with an annual Pin-Up calendar bring an extra flair to her mission of fighting against Breed Specific Legislation (Read more about BSL). Deirdre is so dedicated to the cause that she is currently attaining her master’s degree in Public Policy to aid in her battle against these laws.
Being a fan of vintage looks and bully-breed dogs, I fell in love with the calendar the first time I saw it. I get so excited when people come up with new, unique ideas to help animals. It creates the opportunity to expose a new audience to animal welfare issues. I was tempted to submit a model application for the calendar for years, but wanted to wait until I had a bully breed dog of my own. My previous dog, a senior German Shepherd mix, didn’t quite fit the mold, but my current dog was perfect (Read her adoption story).
After an application process to determine the applicant’s dedication to fighting BSL, my adopted pit bull, Diamond Shamrock and I were chosen! We spent a fun day dressed for a military-themed photo shoot by Celeste Giuliano, the Pinups for Pitbulls’ calendar photographer. Proceeds from the sale of the calendar go to help further PFPB’s mission of fighting against breed specific legislation and educating people about these great dogs.
