dakota-el-paso-times.jpg Here's an amazing found-pet reunion story from our partner HomeAgain.

It emphasizes one of the great benefits of HomeAgain membership: Lost-pet travel assistance. If your lost dog or cat is found more than 500 miles away from home, HomeAgain will cover up to $500 to have him or her flown home.

Dakota escaped from a fenced-in yard
Dakota, a Siberian husky, was lost from her home in White Sands, N.M., days before Christmas last year. When her owner, Audra Roberts, went to let her in from the fenced-in backyard, Dakota was gone. Audra called the police, searched the neighborhood and desert, and posted flyers and messages on Facebook.

Three months later, Dakota was found more than 1,800 miles away in North Carolina. When the local animal control scanned Dakota and found her microchip, a call was made to HomeAgain, which arranged for Dakota to be flown home. "I couldn't believe it," Audra told reporters. "I was expecting maybe Texas since we live in New Mexico, but all the way out in North Carolina -- that's across the country."

Dakota returned to New Mexico to Audra and her 6-month-old baby, just two weeks before Audra's husband Rick was to return from deployment in Afghanistan. "This is Christmas before Christmas," Audra said. "I'm just glad I had her microchipped. Without it, she wouldn't be here right now. It's the best thing I did for her."
