Back in March, we started #TweetAPetTues on Twitter. How does #TweetAPetTues work?
Each Tuesday, Twitter users everywhere tweet adoptable Petfinder pets with the hashtag #TweetAPetTues or #TweetAPetTuesday to help those pets find homes. (See some great examples here.) Some users include only the pet's name, species and location; others point out something unique about the pet. Either way, they're getting that pet some much-needed publicity.
How many people see the tweeted pets?
On the first #TweetAPetTues in March, tweeted pets went out to more than 35,000 Twitter users. In the month of July alone, #TweetAPetTues was shared with more than 165,000 Twitter users (i.e. potential adopters)!
What's the #TweetAPetTues Challenge?
Starting today, we're challenging everyone to tweet a Petfinder adoptable pet for #TweetAPetTues. Each week, a winner will be selected at random to receive a Petfinder button as a small thank you. So tweet as often as you want!
But it gets better. On Nov. 22, one of the weekly winners will be selected as a grand prize winner. This grand prize winner will get to name a Petfinder member shelter or rescue of his or her choice to receive a BISSELL SpotBot Pet Deep Cleaner valued at $129.99! Whether raffled off as a fundraiser for the shelter or used to clean up after the pets in the shelter's care, it's certain to be put to good use. (See the official rules and entry guidelines here.)
How can I participate?
It's simple: Just choose adoptable pets on Petfinder and tweet links to their profiles with the hashtag #TweetAPetTues on Tuesdays now through Nov. 22. Tweet as many as you like and as often as you like. After all, we're spreading the word about pets who need homes! Weekly winners will be selected and announced via Twitter each Thursday.
Don't have a Twitter account? You can still help pets! Simply share an adoptable pet on Facebook. While you won't be eligible to win the #TweetAPetTues Challenge, you'll still get the word out about a great homeless pet.
