After 15 weeks and more than 4 million votes cast, our friends at The Animal Rescue Site have wrapped up their second $100,000 Shelter+ Challenge.

The grand prize of $20,000 went to Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, UT. Says Best Friends interim CEO Gregory Castle:

This is truly a wonderful gift for us
here at Best Friends. We are very grateful to our loyal supporters and to The Animal
Rescue Site and Petfinder.com. This $20,000 prize will go far to
benefit all the animals at the sanctuary as well as support our ongoing
outreach to work towards a time when there are No More Homeless Pets.

My favorite thing about the Shelter+ challenge is that it shares the
love: The 2009 Spring Challenge gave out $100,000 in the form of 74
grants to 60 adoption groups, including:

Plus
51 state winners (including Washington, D.C.), one U.S. territories
winner, two Canadian winners and 15 weekly winners, each of whom
received $1,000. (Read the full list of winners here.)
Best of all, while you’re waiting for the Animal Rescue Site to launch
its next Shelter+ Challenge on Sept. 14, you can visit the site daily
and “Click to Give” food to homeless pets.

Congratulations to all the winners and thanks to all who voted!
