"Gentle, affectionate, curious" girl Kinzie is adoptable from BAD RAP
October 25 is Pit Bull Awareness Day, so in its honor, we're highlighting a group doing amazing things for Pits: BAD RAP, which stands for Bay Area Doglovers Responsible About Pitbulls.

The San Francisco-based organization provides rescue services as well as extensive educational opportunities.

BAD RAP made national news last year when it was called in to evaluate 48 dogs from the Michael Vick case. Several groups stepped forward to foster the dogs, and 10 Pits came back to the Bay Area with BAD RAP. The dogs' amazing progress is detailed in the group's Vick Dog Blog.

In addition to its hands-on rescue work, BAD RAP offers a gamut of services to the local community as well as to animal welfare professionals. Most notably, it offers weekly Pit Ed classes to help educate the parents of these special dogs. According to the BAD RAP mission, Pit Ed participants "learn basic handling skills, dealing with breed traits and responsible ownership protocol."

BAD RAP also provides dog safety classes for city employees who interact with dogs, coaching classes toward a Canine Good Citizen certificate, public outreach events and workshops at conferences for animal welfare professionals.

Oh my gee golly! That looks just like our foster dog, Sierra! She is a lab mix, and we've been told there is Pitbull in her too. She was a stray, but now in our care, she is a loving playful girl that needs a forever home. She loves kids and other dogs, and you can see her on our site listed above.

okay , I LOVE Pit Bulls so much. But since I still live with my mom and dad, I'm not allowed to make many of my own choices, but when I move out, I deffinatly want a Pit Bull as one of my dogs. I've told my mom this , but she always says that Pit Bull is a horrible breed, and that they are only bred for fighting. I know that the Pit Bulls past has been like that but theres no reason that I couldn't train the Pit Bull. [which im willing to do]
And I know its possible because Ceasar Millan has a couple Pit Bulls and they are very well behaved. So I don't know what to do about my mom. if any one has helpful information for me i'd be greatful.
Thanks !

I truly think it is so great that these pit bulls were rescued and being given a second chance. I had a Lab/APBT. He was given to me for our anniversary and something happened to the house we rented and the landlord didn't do anything about it, so we had to leave and I was forced to give up my dog, with the anticipation that no one else could take care of him like I could. The time I had with him was so great.....he loved me to death, but when anyone came near me, he was protective. I would have been able to keep him if everyone else wasn't afraid of him. If I was able to live by myself, I'd go get my baby back. I wish happiness, love, and good homes to these animals, they deserve it. Also, it's wonderful to know that there are people who care about their welfare.
