Hi Richard and Barbara,
Please e-mail any questions or comments about issues with a shelter to "pets (at) petfinder.com".
Emily
We are located in Mobile, Alabama and are open and available to take in birds, snakes, lizards and small exotics that are displaced by Gustav.
We are ver disappointed and hurt by the ttreatment we received by your agent -- Terrier/Schnuzer Rescue in Altamonte Springs, florida. She was rude to us and not very caring about of needs. Also she did not fulfill any promes she made related to helping us. We are hurt and do not think you should such a person representing petfinders.l Thank you, Richard and
Barbara Campanaro - retired couple in Altamonte Springs. We are loving people and do not expect the treatment we received form your representative.
PLEASE re-instate the AERN. this is the one major helpful tool that came out of Katrina and it is not being used.
This is needed for pets that get lost. Already there are posts about dogs escaping during loading for evacuation. There is no central location for lost pets to be listed nor for rescuers or the average joe to post found pets.
The AERN should have become the gold standard for posting lost and found pets for ALL disasters. If it is there for every disaster it will become common knowledge and the place were everyone knows to post.
Right now there are over 7 different rescue orgs in nola, none with contact information for residents needing help. Only contact information is for volunteers. Then we have residents posting for help on craigslist, all the different nola.com forums, petfinder, dogster, tabby tracker.....
The AERN is SO NEEDED!
If anyone has the time or inclination, how about setting up an out-of-state adoption system for animal victims of Gustav?
I know right now the mission is more critical -- simply getting them out of harm's way, but once the storm has passed...
I, for one, would love to be able to give a home to a kitten or two once this is all over with.
Hey , I'm up here in Charlotte North Carolina but I have room for fostering or babysitting one dog(have two dogs and a cat now, ), please don't hesitate to email if I can help. I will drive to pick up area if needed and what I can. Good Luck
I know I'm far away, Indiana but I wanted to offer a welcome to anyone or any pet who needs a place to go. Also I have a small building that is empty (we use it for 4-H animals) but like I said it is empty right now. It has housed goats (5) and pigs (2) Please stay safe
Please considering setting up AERN again. Thank you.
I can take in exotic birds if needed...I am an experienced parrot owner. I am in Ft Walton Beach.
I do small animal rescue and service both the Oklahoma City and Dallas metro areas. If any small pets are being brought to those areas and need a safe place to go (adoptable or foster), don't hesitate to contact me. I will do what I can to pitch in!
Pasado's Safe Haven has already established a staging area in Folsom, LA and will provide shelter for animals from the St. Bernard Parish Shelter and Animal Rescue New Orleans (NOLA). They are poised to spring into action should post Gustav conditions requires animal rescues. They will have full complement of services. Anyone looking for someplace to go to be available or to help with the animals should contact Pasado. The e-mail link on their site is monitored 24x7 and will be answered immediately. Tjey need help!
