In 2001 I had to have my 20 year old cat euthanized. Two months later a workmate e-mailed me a picture of a kitten from petfinder.com that was located in a high kill shelter in L.A. and I was instantly smitten. A friend and I drove there to pick him up as soon as we could. He came down with an upper respiratory infection not long after that and had to be hospitalized. He recovered and everything was good until he was about 5 years old when he was diagnosed with chronic renal failure. He didn't know he had it, and life went on with special food. We then moved to Colorado last year and I drove out here with him on my lap the whole way. We lived on the edge of a forest, but he adapted to walking on a leash so that he would remain safe. Safe, until two weeks ago when his chronic renal failure took a turn and he had to take that final trip to the vet. He was truly the best cat I ever had and will miss him forever.
