I would love for you to meet Pinky, the delightful little chihuahua I adopted last August. The moment I saw her on Petfinder, I knew we were meant for each other and immediately sent an email to Agape Fosters in Iowa to find out if she was still available. Sadly, Pinky had been neglected and was suffering terribly from anemia due to flea infestation, an entire mouth of abscessed teeth, emaciation and a few other problems. The wonderful people at Agape Fosters literally saved Pinky's life by providing medical care and a safe place for her to recover. Because of Pinky's past, they wanted to make sure she was placed in the perfect forever home; one without small children or other pets that might intimidate her. After many emails and an application, when Pinky and I met, it was love at first sight. Her days of hardship were over and her new life full of love, adventure and happiness was about to begin.
Pinky now lives the good life in New York City and enjoys walking with her little dog friends in Central Park, ordering takeout and being the most popular dog on the block. Everywhere we go, people ask where I found such a sweet, adorable dog and, when I tell them I found her on Petfinder, they immediately want to know all about rescue pets and the process. I think many people don't realize that no matter what type of pet you want, there is one waiting for a home on Petfinder. Pinky has been the most wonderful, loving, snuggly little companion and my life has been better every day she has been in it. For anyone thinking of adopting a pet that might be a little older or might need a little extra care, I urge you to do it. To watch your dog or cat blossom and go on to live the life they always should have is a gift you and your pet will never forget.
