PEDIGREE Foundation Grant Opportunity
Does your shelter or rescue group have a unique and innovative way of helping increase dog adoption in your community? PEDIGREE Foundation is awarding Innovation Grants to animal shelters and dog rescue groups that demonstrate real innovation and out-of-the box thinking for raising awareness, volunteerism, donations and dog adoptions.
Innovation Grants range from $10,000 to $25,000 and are awarded to qualifying organizations based on demonstrated use of creative programs aimed at increasing dog adoptions. The grant application process requires animal shelters and dog rescues to lay out a detailed plan of action and must include program objective, detailed strategy, projected budget and measures of success.
PEDIGREE Foundation will select qualifying applicants whose program goals and objectives align with the mission of helping dogs find loving homes. Apply now!

Exercise's Role in Treating Pet Obesity
Overweight/obesity is a serious issue that affects many pets. Recent studies have shown that approximately 40% of pets are overweight and obesity is now the most common disorder of companion animals. A pet is considered overweight/obese if he or she is 20% above his or her ideal body weight.
Excess weight may predispose your pet to a variety of disorders, including osteoarthritis, cardiorespiratory problems, diabetes mellitus, constipation, dermatitis, anesthetic risk and reduced life expectancy. The most successful approach for keeping your pet's weight under control includes restricting calories and increasing activity. Exercise is just as important as providing a balanced, calorie-controlled diet for safe weight loss, so when designing and incorporating an exercise plan, there are a few things to consider:
- Work with your veterinarian to design an appropriate weight loss plan.

Weekly Report from Petfinder
Dear Petfinder.com members,
You work hard to make great adoption matches. And we want those successful matches to be FurKeeps. Thanks to Insure FurKeeps, this Happy Tail had another happy ending:
Several months after adopting Tony, a male Jack Russell terrier, from Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League in West Palm Beach, FL, Carina noticed a mass growing on his left rear paw. Worried that it may be serious, she took Tony to the vet to have it checked immediately. After some bloodwork and removal of the growth, Carina was relieved to find out the mass was not cancerous, but was left with a $590.96 vet bill for the tests and surgery. Luckily, she activated the First Coverage insurance offered by PetFirst and was reimbursed $500.00 for the vet bill.
When new adopters activate the PetFirst adoption insurance policy for only $5 for the first month, you know that your recent adoptees will be covered by $1,000 of accident and illness coverage with a $500 per incident limit. PetFirst reimburses 100% of veterinary expenses after a $50 per incident deductible.
