Basics of a Successful Adoption Program
It is the responsibility of the animal shelter to seek permanent, responsible homes for the adoptable animals placed in their custody. To that end, shelters need to formulate written policies and guidelines that will be followed when processing adoptions.
While the majority of adoption guidelines are in fact just that, they are still items that must be considered prior to making an adoption decision. It is not effective to rely solely on the individual discretion of the adoption counselor.
It is impossible to act in the best interest of the animals if there are no guidelines. Animals should not be adopted just to prevent euthanasia or haphazardly without forethought of the animal's welfare.

Weekly Report from Petfinder
Dear Petfinder.com members,
Petfinder is going to celebrate our first ever "Adopt-a-Less-Adoptable-Pet Day" on August 12th.
Get ready - we are going to help you shine a spotlight on your harder-to-place pets. Please share your experience with what we are affectionately calling "Less Adoptable" pets by completing the survey questions HERE.
In mid-July we will provide you with a Petfinder member resource page so that you can join us in the celebration and involve your own community. We will share the collective results of our survey questions, provide you with a customizable press release, printable flyer and information to share with adopters.
Then on August 12th, we can all focus on letting adopters know why some of your harder to place pets might be a great addition to their family.
Have a great adoption week. –K
